I tried 4 wallet cases and this is the BEST by far
After I bought the iPhone X…
1) I bought the Apple leather folio case and used it for a week. It is made of quality leather and is comfortable to hold. Auto wake/sleep is great. BUT… Problem1: all credit cards tucked in one pouch. This became a pain not being able to quickly select an individual card. I had to dig every time. Problem 2: there is no stand feature to prop phone up while watching videos. Problem 3: when using iPhone a lot around the home I got tired of having to have the entire leather case & credit cards palmed in my hand. It is fine out and about but not at home where I use the iPhone for hours and hours. It became awkward and uncomfortable. Result: I sent it back for a refund
2) I then bought the Platinum Series Leather Wallet Case and used it for a week. The credit cards were in separate pouches and this was much better. Problem 1: the leather is not soft and the stitches felt rough on the hands after awhile. Problem 4: the cutouts for the iPhone volume control made it hard to press the buttons. Problem 5: No auto wake/sleep when open/close. Result: I sent it back for a refund
3) I then bought the Luxmo magnetic case with removable iPhone which is superficially similar to this Zover case. I loved the detachable phone, this was a must for leather wallet cases. No more palming the entire leather case while using it a lot at home. Problem 1: the case was not compatible with wireless charging. This is a major fail, what the hell was Luxmo thinking? Problem 2: The sides of the plastic case did not go all the way to the top of the screen, it was significantly below it which meant the screen had ZERO protection in a fall. It was too dangerous to ever use the phone with the magnetically detachable case. Problem 3: No auto wake/sleep when open/close. 4) no stitches around credit card slots, this will tear over time. Result: I sent it back for a refund
4) I then bought this Zover case and it is fantastic. What a relief it is to find this case. It does not have any of the problems mentioned above.
Here are the highlights of this Zover case:
• It has a detachable iPhone case so you don't have to carry the entire leather case and credit cards everywhere when extensively using iPhone X at home.
• It works with wireless charging! Surprisingly some iPhone X cases, like the Luxmo, don't
• It has a built-in stand to prop up the iPhone for watching videos
• The sides of the plastic case goes all the way up to the top of the screen and a bit beyond to offer screen protection when dropped. Of course this is minimal screen protection if the iPhone isn’t magnetically attached to the wallet. If you need full screen protection buy a different case.
• The plastic case doesn't use cut-outs to access the buttons. It has outer buttons that internally press the buttons on your iPhone (like Apple's $99 folio). The cut-out button-access method is a major fail by other case makers and hard to access volume buttons and Zover understood this and didn't go that route. Thank God.
• I added 4 credit cards and a $20 to the case and it closes comfortably. It doesn't puff out like an over stuffed taco. Zover made the fold large enough to accommodate credit cards. Surprisingly many wallet case makers don't do that.
• When opening the case and wrapping the leather flap to the back of the phone, the case magnetically locks into place, and keeps the flap tight against the back of the phone.
• The leather is very soft (like Apple's $99 folio) and the stitches are not rough to the touch.
• Auto wake/sleep when the case opens and closes. Note: the iPhone X currently disables “Hey Siri” when any case puts your iPhone X to sleep. Hopefully Apple fixes this with a future iOS update so Hey Siri always works no matter what.
• As mentioned by another reviewer the magnet doesn’t keep the wallet closed. It’s mainly used for keeping the wallet flapped open. Magnets just don’t have enough pull over the distance of the thickness of the iPhone and a few credit cards. This was not unexpected and is not a problem (my pocket keeps it closed). If you want a wallet to clamp closed when not in your pocket buy one with a Velcro strap or a snap.
CONCLUSION: This iPhone case is terrific and does not have any of the problems of other cases I have tried. I feel lucky to have found it. I’m kind of glad I went through hell before this case because I now appreciate the care that went into the details of its design.
UPDATE: One year later this case is still amazing and holding up well. The one for sale now seems to have a strap to keep it shut. When I reviewed it the case did not have that strap which in my opinion should be an option, not mandatory because I love the case without the strap
