Good overall
So far I’ve used these trekking poles for about 25 miles of hiking in the Phoenix area. After the first hike I realized the handle material was too hard and got slippery when sweaty. Also, the straps were too short. To solve this I wrapped the handles in bicycle handlebar tape and replaced the straps with better and longer material. The bar tape provides cushion and sweat absorption. The new straps are more comfortable and stay set. After these mods the poles are perfect. They help me keep a steady pace and give my knees and quads a welcome relief when climbing.
Update: After about 50 miles of trekking over rocky terrain I happy to say that these poles are really holding up. They don’t collapse at all and I’ve put my whole weight on them numerous times while negotiating steep climbs. For the price you really can’t beat these poles.
Update 09/2019: I've now used these trekking poles for 2 training seasons racking up over 200 miles of hiking and 2 Rim 2 River 2 Rim day hikes totaling about 45 mile in the Grand Canyon. The carbide tips are worn, I re-wrapped the bar tape, but the locks still hold as good as new and they've really held up to ALOT of abuse. They've been tossed, dropped, dragged, and scraped but keep on working. I'm pretty sure these aren't designed to last this long but they have. I'm starting a new training season for a rim 2 rim in December. I have no plans to get new poles unless these fail.
2/2021 UPDATE: After 3 Grand Canyon trips and sooo many miles of hiking I finally retired these poles this year. The tips were so worn out the carbide is almost gone and the middle section worn from movement. They are still functional but I needed new ones. Tried a set of carbon fiber Costco poles... broke on my second hike. Ended up with a set of Mountainsmith Carbonlite Pro’s. Great poles if you know you’re going to use them a lot. I still recommend these poles to anyone needing an inexpensive set. Don’t worry about abusing them, they can take it.
