Mosquitos? Get a bat house!
So, I will preface my review by saying one should research the proper way to install a bat house before putting it up. To be honest, mine has yet to be properly hung, but it is painted black (which is suggested for my state). Bat Conservation International has some good references online about where to place them. Don't lose patience; bats may not move in immediately. Don't fall for the many myths about bats, just KNOW: they can eat up to 1000 mosquitoes in 1 hour! That's a pretty sweet deal if you can find it in your heart to see how adorably cute these mammals are and let them live a peaceful life in your vicinity. They are basically flying puppies! Which by the way ANY mammal can transmit rabies and "Worldwide, more than 55,000 people are estimated to die of rabies each year (World Health Organization), primarily from contacts with rabid dogs." So remember you still say, "AWWW" when you see a dog roaming outside...you damn sure have the same ability to do so for mosquito-assasinating bats. I just hope all our bat species still exist in 10 years given the awful human introduction of a new aggressive, deadly fungus into their cave homes. The fungus (P.distructans) is to them what the black plague was for humans. :( GET A BAT HOUSE
