I ordered this external DVD, because the superdrive that I had for my MacAir spits the CDs out without reading it. I had paid $79.99+tax to Apple when I purchased it 2 years ago, and i seldom used it. I was disappointed with the superdrive. Sometimes I need a DVD drive to read archive documents and write them on CDs again. I was looking for a used superdrive on amazon because I did not want to pay that much again. I saw this item, it said it had Panasonic drive in it, so I wanted to give a shot. The product reminds me of the PC-laptop style DVD drives, the way you insert a CD etc, with a mac look as it has an aluminum outer shell. So far worked great and it was almost half the price. Now that all mac products are without a superdrive, this becomes inevitable for those of us who need a DVD drive occasionally. The drive works instantly as you plug it in, OS X mountain lion recognized it immediately, and I have used it to read and write CDs and DVDs. I will keep posting if anything happens to my external drive.
