But please note that I received this item for free in exchange for my honest review. === Review begins: We have been talking for awhile about getting electronic locks for the four-plex, so finally I took a shot at getting one to start with and go from there. This was one I wanted since Kwikset key blanks are easy to get or making extra keys. So let's go over the Pros and Cons of this lock. What's in the box? Every part you could need is included almost. The one exception is if you have a round strike hole and latch bolt. Full detailed instructions in English and Spanish. SmartKey tool. This is for if you already have a Kwikset deadbolt lock with more than 2 keys for it. You can re-key your Aura to use your existing Kwikset (only) keys. We opted for this since we have 10 people with a key to the front door, and it was simple to re-key the lock to the existing keys. Installation Template for new doors. QR Code to download the App (needed for assigning codes via Bluetooth) Installation time: It took me about 20 minutes to swap out the lock and get the app installed. This will be more if you are installing a new door and need to not only cut a hole in the door, but also chisel out the strike. I was using an existing door so it was not a problem we would have had. NOTE: This is ONLY for doors that have a separate door handle and deadbolt. If you have a rim lock, mortise set or integrated deadbolt/entry knob this lockset will not work for you. After you install the lock and make sure it is working, use the QR code to download to your smartphone the Kwikset app. Things we liked: Easy to install 20 Minute fire rating Everything including batteries was in the kit. Can assign up to 250 user codes WITH access restrictions. Anytime, One Time, Scheduled. It is also easy to rescind a code, say if you change housekeepers. One touch locking Auto-Lock. You can set the lock to re-lock after x amount of seconds. Low battery warning. Hands-free unlocking from your smartphone. Must be in Bluetooth range ~ 100 feet/30.5 Meters Up to 8 users can have the app on their phones in the same account. Multiple locks can be paired to the app. Stats reports on when the lock was accessed and by who. (Must be in Bluetooth range to grab the stats from the lock) Traditional Keyway. Even though this is an electronic lock, I recommend that you carry the key, in cases the batteries die while you are out of the house, since if this happens, the lock will stay in the last position (locked/Unlocked) that it is in when the batteries die. Easy to re-key with the included Smart-Key tool. I only had to re-key it once, and all 10 keys that existed work. KWIKSET KEYS ONLY. What we did NOT like: Installing and configuring the app. I had to do 3 separate verifications before the app would consider itself installed. Then you have to add each user, and to make them an admin, it has to e-mail an invite to them. The only admins are my wife and myself, but I had to send her an invite. Sheesh! After that though, adding a user and assigning a code was easy. Aura does NOT Currently work with Google Home or Alexa, but I imagine they are working on that now. I am NOT deducting a star for this. I understand security issues. All in all though, for ease of installation and use, I like this product. I like that I can be in the car, and send an unlock signal and just walk right in, and then it will re-lock behind me. Here is a partial list of the phones AND tablets the Aura App will work with. I have a friend who is a locksmith who came over to try and pick it or bump it. He was not able to pick it using a set of picks, and even using an electronic pick gun, it still took him almost 10 minutes to jiggle the pins correctly. He rated the lock A+ in his opinion, and he has been a licensed locksmith for over 30 years. That is good enough for me to recommend this as a buy.
