Don't let negative reviews scare you, unless you have issues following instructions.
We have been using Tmob prepaid minutes you buy in block of 1000 minutes (not the newer $3 a month) for many years.
It has been lasting less and less time between refills and they don't provide a way to see where the minutes go, so the whole thing was feeling increasingly sketchy.
After quite a bit of research I decided to ignore all the horror stories about Mint(mostly regarding activation issues) and give it a shot. I was set to order this from Mint but on their website you pay this price + taxes and fees and it takes 2-4 days delivery so I ordered here.
It arrived the next day. Mint advises you watch their video about porting your number so I did but there wasn't really anything there new to me. If you have any concerns you should probably watch it.
Steps I took:
1: I logged in to Tmob and verified that the pin and pw and account information I had were all still accurate and working and wrote them down
2: Powered off the device and swapped out the sim cards.
3: Pulled up the Mint activation page on my laptop and filled in the activation code on the sim card.
4: Made sure to click "Keep my number" and then filled in the previously recorded information.
5: Received an activation complete message on screen with a warning that it could take up to 24 hours for the port to finish.
6:Powered up the phone, and instantly had welcome messages from Mint.
7: Sent a test text from google voice account on laptop, which was successful.
8: Followed the Mint instructions to set up mms texting.
I appreciate that if I had been on a different carrier it may have been different but for me this was incredibly smooth and easy.
Phone is working flawlessly and I no longer have to worry about each call and text consuming minutes. Oh and I have data now too.
