Excellent Value Fun to Use
I am reviewing the Brother SE1900. This is a fabulous machine and the price is great for what you get. It can sew and embroider. I love how easy the bobbin is to drop in and needle automatically picks up the thread, also automatic needle threader is wonderful! Has foot and knee pedal for sewing. Comes with 5x7 hoop. This is my 4th embroidery machine. I started with the Brother SE400. The largest hoop it could take was a 4x4, so there were a lot of designs i could not use, so I got the PE770, which could take a 5x7 hoop. That was a lot better but did not have a nice touchscreen that shows the design as you sew. So I splurged and got the Dream Maker VE220. I love that machine and am still using it. But it costs a lot more than this one. This one is a great value! Brother makes excellent sewing and embroidery machines. They are very user-friendly and work great! I have used a lot of brands and I really like Brother the best. And they cost less too!
This Brother SE1900 can sew and embroider. Can take up to 5x7 hoops, which is plenty large for most projects, the hoops are easy to snap on and off. That is nice if you don't have a lot of space. But personally, I prefer to also have separate a sewing machine and just use this to embroider, so I don't have to keep switching out the parts when I want to sew. It comes with lots of designs, and you can get a lot more online at various embroidery sites. You download them to a USB stick and then plug it into the machine to download the design. One of my favorite sites to get designs is Urban Threads. They really cool and hip designs. A lot of the websites sell a lot of cutesy stuff, that is mainly good if you are sewing for children. This machine is an excellent value. It has most of the features of my more expensive Dream Maker, and my dream maker cannot sew! So if you are on the fence, trust me you will love this machine and the price is great. Some embroidery machines go for $3000-$10,000 or more! believe it or not.
To get the best out of the machine, be sure to use embroidery needles, and change the needle out ever 2-3 projects, depending on how large they are. Also, I found that the type of thread that is wound crossways, like most embroidery thread, comes off better with less breakage if you get one of those stands that have the spool sitting upright, instead of sideways. That makes a HUGE difference in thread breaks. Also, very important to use the correct bobbin. If you use the wrong bobbin you will have thread breaking and tangles, ugh! Usually, if something does not run smoothly, it will be an issue related to the wrong spool, dull or wrong size needle or the thread coming off twisted.
Another tip is to put a little tension on the thread when you thread the machine to make sure it goes in smoothly. When you remove the thread, always pull from the needle end, not backward because this can create a lot more lint in the works of the machine. Cut by the thread spool and pull the thread out from the needle.
I highly recommend you take some classes at your local sewing machine store to get the best out of your machine since there are a few tricks to make sure you get good results. This machine does it all, works perfectly for embroidery and sewing, comes with everything you need to get started. PLEASE take the time to read the manual before you start! Or you may make a small mistake that will frustrate you. You will have great success if you follow the instructions, take a class if you can. Be sure to order a pack of embroidery thread and some stabilizer too, you will want lots of pretty colors to choose from. I like to use the type of stabilizer that comes with sticky on the back already so you don't have to use the spray adhesive. If you are on the fence about what machine to get, your search is over, you will absolutely love this machine. Brother is really the way to go for a great machine at a good price. Have fun! check out my photos.
