Thoroughly addictive puzzler with an extra helping of cute
Puzzle games on the Android are a dime a dozen these days and it's rare for one to stand out from the pack. Cut the Rope is such a game. It draws you in with its crisp visuals and cute protagonist, Om Nom, but keeps you hooked with excellent puzzles that leave you wanting to try just one more. Like many puzzle games, you can get up to a three start rating per level. However, unlike certain furious fowl, the stars aren't earned due to random chance and the whims of some physics deity. Instead, all three stars are in every level and it's up to you to figure out how to collect them. The goal is to slice and dice, poke and prod the candy into Om Nom's mouth, but the real challenge is collecting all three stars in the process. The game's cute trappings would mean nothing if the puzzles weren't so excellently designed. You start off practicing the basics, cutting ropes, but as you progress, new ways to manipulate your environment are introduced. You start with what amounts to a training level and build your way up to tougher challenges. Out of the many puzzles included, I only ran into one or two that I felt relied too heavily on chance or super human speed. Otherwise there was a good mixture of straight forward puzzles and ones that required a little lateral thinking. If you enjoy puzzle games, especially ones with this much polish, then don't miss out on Cut the Rope. At either price of free or $0.99 it's a great deal. (I played the crap out if this game on a Droid Incredible and had no issues.)
