I purchased this product in order to make water kefir, a probiotic drink. These “grains” are necessary to make it and it is important that they are healthy because they are a live culture. They came dried and I placed them in sugar water until they reconstituted and were ready to use. While they are in the sugar water, absorbing the nutrients, they should “plump up” and become larger and full. This was exactly what happened when I prepared them. It came with clear instructions also. Although I had made water kefir before, I had already received the plump grains from someone else. I did not know how to plump them up until I read the directions. I have made two flavors of kefir water with these grains and they taste great. I am pleased with this product.
