Weird Watch.
Since my family is from Natchez, this documentary caught my attention. Now I see why my folks all high-tailed it out as soon as they could. The optics are bad in this film. Mostly white men, one after the other discussing how much they loved going to this lady's brothel, where they could get any color woman they wanted, and could get a great meal too! It was also discussed how black men were banned from her brothel. Very surreal watching dozens of white men reminisce how great it was at Nellie's brothel. -Relishing how the laws didn't apply to them. Now I most certainly would have been all for Ms. Nellie making her paper, but, listening to these men was still disturbing. The flaw in this project though is how very little of Nellie's back ground was investigated. It's clear Nellie's father, (or mother) was white. I would have liked to know which wealthy Natchez white man fathered her, thus in turn which prominent family she's genetically related too..Which could have partly allowed her to operate her business untouched for so long. None of that was discussed though. We just get to listen to the white dudes..Now, granted, I needed to FF through the middle and went to the end to see what happened. 'Couldn't stomach the on and on and on the good 'ol days..
