HUSBAND/WIFE 'NON-RAVE' REVIEW WITH PROS & CONS!
Update on July 10th 2017: It is now 1.5 years since we bought this mattress and we're still happy with our purchase. It is still supportive, though it does get a little softer with body heat than it did when it was new; which is to be expected of a foam mattress in my experience. Both my husband and I find that can mean some back discomfort after a long sleep: that is for more than 8 hours. Update on July 10th 2017 continued: MEMORY FOAM? - Not in the opinion of my husband and I! As mentioned in my initial review, the 2 inches of obviously very low density 'memory' foam does not make this mattress feel like a memory foam mattress to us! There's none of that feel of it slowly molding to your body shape that one expects of memory foam. We didn't expect that either! We did our homework and just expected a good foam mattress. We were very much aware that most, if not all, foam mattresses tend to be marketed as memory foam these days to compete. Update on July 10th 2017 continued: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR! - Since 'memory foam mattresses' are all made with layers of higher and lower density foams, including a memory foam layer, there only needs to be a thin layer of low density, 'memory' foam for a mattress to be marketed as such. We have plans to invest in a Tempurpedic in a year or so, and are debating getting a higher density memory foam topper in the interim. So, if you're looking for a memory foam mattress that feels like a Tempurpedic, we suggest you go test some out and spend the extra to get one, or accept that less expensive 'memory foam mattress' may not feel like you expect. If you're happy to settle for a decent 'foam' mattress, we find this one to be decent and it's lasted well for us so far! We received this mattress at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review, and that's what you'll get from me! Since we both personally dislike and cannot trust 'rave reviews', this review is a truthful report of mine and my husband's personal experience of this mattress. It is complete with 'Pros' and 'Cons', photos and the time we've been 'testing' this product. THE PHOTOS: All of the photos included with this review were taken by me personally. Most of them were taken during unpacking and immediately after the mattress was unpacked 11 days ago. A few last minute ones showing the foam under the zippered cover were taken more recently. INITIAL TESTING TIME: The time given me for the submission of a review is within two weeks of the purchase date. With two days shipping via Amazon Prime, and a day allowed for 'off-gassing', at the time of this review my husband and I have been 'sleep testing' this mattress for 9 days. This is a woefully short time period to test a mattress, so my initial review can only be of 'first impressions'. For this reason, and my personal desire to give trustworthy reviews that are not misleading, I will return over time to add updates to this review. FIRST IMPRESSION PROS: 1/ WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET (FOR THE MATTRESS)! * None of that thin foam that eventually becomes full size after days! This mattress is definitely a 10 inch mattress and solid. It is not one of those 'scrunched up tiny' affairs. It comes in a decent sized box, bent in half and rolled. It looks and feels unaffected by how it's packed. As soon as you release it from the packaging it becomes the size it's meant to be pretty immediately (as you can see in the photos which are taken during and immediately after unpacking). *Beautiful cover! The cover shown in the pictures is the cover you get. It comes already on the mattress, and is zippered right round the underside of the mattress. *Pillow: Unfortunately, I can't say how the pillow is. I failed to see the instruction that I needed to add both the mattress and the pillow to get the pillow. I have sent a message to the seller asking if it can still be sent. If I receive it, I'll review it at a later date. (See update - 2/29/2016) 2/ NO CHEMICAL SMELL AFTER SHORT OFF-GASSING PERIOD! *This was a main worry of mine with buying memory foam. I'd read horror stories about mattresses that took a long time to get rid of the chemical smell and some that never really did. I can gladly say that this mattress probably could have been slept on the very first night, but being that I am very sensitive to chemical smells and there was a slight smell at first, my husband and I decided to give it some off-gassing time. After 24 hours of breathing, with an open window and circulated air, there was no chemical smell left at all. 3/ SOFT BUT SUPPORTIVE! *This one seems to be subjective based on a person's weight. This mattress would seem to be in the 'medium' range of softness by the experience of my husband and I. My husband finds it quite comfortable and is a pretty big man. I am no 'light-weight' myself, so both of our experiences may be vastly different from someone of a lighter weight, whom, as I've noticed in other reviews, may find this mattress too firm. For me, whom my husband calls 'The Princess And The Pea' when it comes to mattresses, it so far seems to be the balance of firm and soft that I need. A very 'firm' mattress and many innerspring mattresses will cause me to toss and turn and even develop bruised or painful 'pressure points'. Alternatively, a 'too soft' mattress can leave my back hurting! Neither has happened yet with this mattress, though as I've pointed out at the start of this review nine days is a very short time for testing. 4/ MOVEMENT DOES NOT TRANSFER EASILY: *On their site, Resort Sleep answers the following FAQ this way: “Will I feel my partner’s movement? Nope. With our proprietary foams and the combination of our 2 layer system, you won’t feel your partner, dog, cat or earthquakes while sleeping on your Resort Sleep.” Having slept on foam mattresses a lot in my life, I know this to be more likely to be the case with most foam over innerspring mattresses, and memory foam adds an extra layer of 'absorbed motion'. My husband and I not only slept with a lot less tossing and turning than usual, but we were also less aware of each other's movement. Of-course, as can be expected, the closer we were to each other, the more movement transferred. *Overall, we so far get a more peaceful sleeping experience, on this bed in comparison to our former inner spring mattress. 4/ CertiPUR-US® APPROVED: *This basically means the construction of the foam has been tested and certified as made with materials that are safer for you and the environment. You can feel safer knowing there's not going to be any mercury, lead or formaldehyde for instance. FIRST IMPRESSION CONS: 1/ TWO INCH MEMORY FOAM LAYER SEEMS TO BE VERY LIGHT DENSITY: *We tried the 'hand test' several times directly on the foam, with the cover pulled back (holding a hand there for several minutes). Once the hand was taken away, the resultant impression lasted less than a second. *The foam density is not on the mattress label and is not listed at the official Resort Sleep site. *While comfortable, this mattress doesn't feel much like the memory foam of other memory foam mattresses we've tested. I would estimate the density to be 1-2 pounds. 2/ INSTRUCTIONS NOT INCLUDED: *The only information that comes with the mattress is the card pictured in the photos. There are no instructions for unpacking. So, we were glad we watched a video made by another buyer. 3/ INFORMATION ON WARRANTY LACKING: *We like to know we're covered well when we buy anything that's supposed to last a good while. I got worried when I saw the warranty information didn't come with the mattress. The only mention of the warranty was on the card thanking us for the purchase and encouraging feedback, where it says: “Warranty info at resortsleep...” *I could find very little on the warranty at the Resort Sleep site: I spent a good deal of time seeking out information on the warranty. However, I could find no page or section specifically dedicated to it. The only information I could find on the warranty and return policy was in the product description and the FAQ section; which tell that the warranty is for 10 years, prorated and covers manufacturer defects. Here's some quotes of the information on the warranty I could find at the time this review was written (hopefully Resort Sleep will see this review and amend that): (NOTE: THE FOLLOWING ARE QUOTES FROM THE RESORT SLEEP SITE) Product Description: “Backed by a 10-year warranty – ensuring years of quality and comfort!” FAQ Page: “How long will Resort Sleep Mattress last? Resort Sleep offers a pro-rated 10 year warranty. With one of the longest warranties in the business, you will have many great nights on your new Resort Sleep. Remember, one of the main reasons to replace a mattress is cleanliness. With its removable cover you’ll enjoy your mattress longer, knowing it will have a super clean sleeping surface for years to come.” “What is the return policy? Your new Resort Sleep comes with a 10 year pro-rated warranty which protects the mattress from manufacturer defects. Remember, a new bed will support you better than your old bed so it’s normal to experience some small aches and pains as your body adjusts to getting proper support.” FIRST IMPRESSION CONCLUSION: 1/ COMFORT: FAVORABLE! *So far sleeping on this mattress has been a positive experience for both my husband and I. 2/ PHYSICAL SUPPORT: FAVORABLE! *So far this mattress has offered very good support to both my husband and I. 3/ QUALITY FOR PRICE: FAVORABLE! *Nice size. Unpacks nicely. Beautiful zippered cover. 4/ PRODUCT INFORMATION AND SUPPORT: UNFAVORABLE. [Please note: This has nothing to do with 'seller support'. This is a review about the product, not the seller] *Foam density not listed on the mattress or in mattress description. *No instructions included for unpacking the mattress. *No warranty information included with mattress and hard to find on website. 5/ DO WE LIKE IT AND WOULD WE RECOMMEND IT? *Sometimes it's important to ask a simple 'yes/no' question. Based on our first impressions, with only a little over a week of sleeping on this mattress, the current answer of both my husband and I is, “Yes.” OVERALL SCORE: 4/5 I hope you found my review helpful and informative. I will be returning to update this review at later dates. **UPDATE - 2/29/2016 - THE PILLOW! Requested pillow arrived the day after I requested it! I've been testing it several nights now! The hubby doesn't go for as much softness under the head as I do, so this part of the review is up to me! It came rolled tight inside plastic, and after being unpacked it took about an hour to gain it's fullness. t did have a slight chemical smell at first, and being incredibly sensitive to chemical smells, I allowed it two days for 'off-gassing' time, though for most people one would probably be enough. It's definitely a nice medium-sized pillow, with a resilient softness. I would guess the density to be about 2-2.5lbs. It doesn't hold the shape of impressions, suggesting it's again on the light side for memory foam. However, I like my pillows to 'buoy' me up, but have found regular pillows can give me neck pain, so I've been sleeping on a 'harder' memory foam pillow for some time, and not always that peacefully. On this pillow, I've had no neck pain and have slept much more comfortably! I love it! I only hope it stays as nice: It's exactly as I hoped it would be!
