Works
This definitely works to help control indoor fruit fly invasions. If you have a significant fly issue, you will probably need more sticky discs in a week. This photo shows 4 or 5 days of continual use.
On the highest setting, it has the same quiet, whitenoise hum as a computer. However, this also means that the fan is not very powerful. The flies have to go all the way into the top grate themselves. It won't suck them in if they're just wandering around the top. I can't imagine it being effective against stronger insects like a housefly, but it's great for the little ones.
Note: The moment you turn the unit off, any flies that are not stuck to the sticky disc will swarm right out. Make sure to put the whole unit in a plastic bag right before you turn it off. Then, only open that bag up when you're safely outside! (A produce bag from the grocery store worked great for me.)
