Some good new features, some bad.
I’ve owned an older FoodSaver for about 10 years. It was pretty basic. Stick the bag in, push the clamp down and it would suck and then seal whenever it thought it was ready to do so. While I liked the simplicity, it wouldn’t always seal the bags, especially as it got older. It would just keep on sucking, but no sealing. When I received this new model to review, I was excited at the many new (to me) features. There’s actually a button to make it seal instantly! And you can pulse the vacuum so that delicate items won’t get crushed (yay, now I can vacuum seal my cookies to send to friends!). And it still has the hose port so I can attach my mason jar sealer (which is probably the most awesome thing with these vacuum sealers. I keep my spices fresh in wide-mouth jars.). And now it also has an attachment for sealing those zip-top bags that have vacuum valved holes. While I have not had as many issues as others seem to be having with getting the sealer to start sucking, I have on occasion had difficulty with the automatic sensor. I just hope that it does not get worse over time! With all the manual features (instant seal, pulse vaccum), you think FoodSaver would have had a button for “Start Suction” so that the automatic detection system could be bypassed.
