The ultimate amazon wallet review!
I compared 7 wallets in about 3 hours: 1. Timberland Commuter Brown Bifold Leather Wallet 2. Tommy Hilfiger Men's Credit Card Trifold, Black, One Size 3. Dockers Mens Extra Capacity Slimfold Leather Wallet, Black, One Size 4. Nautica Men's Passcase,Brown,One Size 5. Levi's Mens Extra Capacity Slimfold Wallet, Brown, One Size 6. Tommy Hilfiger Mens Cambridge Trifold Wallet, Brown, One Size 7. Levi's Mens Trifold Two-Tone Wallet, Brown, One Size The Levi's wallets were the clear winners! The longer version - I finally decided to replace the wallet my grandpa gave me about 20 years ago. I've replaced parts of it a few times now, and the leather is now so streatched, that cards keep falling out. My next wallet has a lot to live up to, so i bought seven of them to compare. In my experiments, I put a full set of personal cards - and then a bunch of business cards and store cards too. I have a lot of cards. 1. TIMBERLAND: 2/5 stars - poor plastic attachment excellent leather, suede-like, single, but neat stitching spaces - fairly tight with 4 stacked pockets, but good 2 plastic pockets on flap, stitching already coming apart on plastic 8 inside pockets 2 spade spaces behind inside pockets 12 spaces + 1 bill space 2. TOMMY BLACK TRIFOLD 2/5 stars - flawed design: too tight! excellent leather + fabric, smooth glossy, stupid logo and red, white, and blue ribbon which will fray and break spaces - very tight, credit cards cannot fit in some spaces, not enough give in the folds to close, cannot remove cards with one hand when full 1 strong, clear plastic space 5 pockets on the flap 2 inside pockets on the flap 4 normal pockets 2 spaces under normal pockets 14 spaces + 1 bill space + comes with a plastic photo/card holder insert if you want it 3. DOCKERS BIFOLD 3/5 stars - cheap feeling, but excellent size cheap plasticy leather feel, cheap feeling plasticy fabric, smooth, nice embossed logo, double stiching on front spaces - about perfect, can remove cards with one hand 3 left pockets 1 space under left pockets 3 flap pockets (left side) 1 space under flap pockets (left side) 1 strong plastic pocket on flap (right side) 3 right pockets 1 space under right pockets 12 spaces + 1 bill space 4. NAUTICA 3/5 stars - wierd spacing, but nice seems like the ultimate wallet until you fill it up; the pockets keep the cards toward the bottom leaving a wierd gap at the top, even with the "mini wallet" insert; with less cards, this wallet could be fun. the construction is excellent spaces - flexible, but not perfect, cards fit ok 2 lightweight plastic, but secure, pockets in removable mini wallet -1 pocket if you want the mini wallet in one of the right pockets 4 right pockets 3 left pockets 1 big left pocket 2 hidden pockets inside the big left pocket 2 spaces under right and left pockets 13 spaces + 2 bill spaces + comes with a plastic photo/card holder insert if you want it 5. LEVI'S BIFOLD 5/5 stars excellent construction, double stitching throughout, mesh is used instead of plastic to hold the id, which i believe will prevent cracking and yellowing after 10 years or so, quality, canvas like lining, "full-er" grain leather than other wallets, but still pliable, feels big in your hand spaces - any card can easily be picked out with one hand. lots of room, no "plastic window" pockets, spaces where you would expect them, behind all pockets, including on both sides of the flap 3 comfy pockets on the left 3 on the right too 2 big spaces under the left and right pockets 3 pockets on the right side of the flap 1 space under the right side of the flap 1 space under thr left side of the flap 13 spaces + 1 big bill space 6. TOMMY BROWN TRIFOLD - 2/5 stars - flawed design: too tight! excellent construction, fabric logo on front is fine, smooth slightly plasticy feeling leather, spaces are too tight for the trifold design, some do not fit cards in them at all, seemingly good idea to keep id cards on the outside of the right fold - buts makes the wallet too thick to close with a lot of cards - need two hands to remove cards in pockets other than the front ones 3 left spaces 3 middles spaces 3 right spaces 3 spaces total under left, middle, and right 1 clear plastic id holder on outside of right side 13 spaces + 2 bill spaces + comes with a plastic photo/card holder insert if you want it 7. LEVI'S TRIFOLD 5/5 stars excellent construction, like the levi's bifold design, but overall smaller, fits well in your hand - but like any trifold, it will budge out a little spaces are tight, but not too tight like the tommy pockets; still need two hands to remove cards from some pockets, excellent construction, suede-like leather like the timberland 4 left pockets (not two, like it could appear from the picture) 1 middle mesh pocket, which opens on the right 4 right pockets 2 spaces under left and right pockets 11 spaces + one big bill space Overall - both of the tommy wallets are beautifully constructed, but flawed in their design - it would be very hard to actually use these wallets b/c some of the pockets don't fit normal credit cards. plus, the black one had a stupid ribbon that would break, and a stupid metal logo - the nautica wallet looks awesome, but the spaces don't work well; you would be better off, at times, putting two cards in the space where the mini wallet fits inside - not useful - the timberland wallet has nice leather, but the plastic is cheap and the overall construction is poor, with stitching broken out of the box - the dockers wallet is slightly lighter and a millimeter shorter than the levi's bifold, but the dockers construction is shabby at best - both Levi's wallets are excellent and well sized. there is a big difference b/w the two: the bifold is roomy and sits flatter on the table when full. the trifold has tight pockets that require two hands to remove some cards, is narrower, but sits higher on the table when full, partly open. The bifold feels big your hand, and the trifold fits nicely in your hand. If you don't have more cards than the number of spaces, the trifold could be best. If you have lots of cards, the bifold could be best. The bifold is bigger and the cards slip in and out of it with one hand. Note that none of the wallets I reviewed loose cards when tossed across the room 15 feet. An advantage of any trifold is that it can fit big business checks in it. The levis bifold, however, is about 1 mm taller than the other bifolds I reviewed, so it can hold large size business checks with only a small amount of overhang. It is much easier to organize many cards in the bigger, bifold wallet. The trifold feels more "tight and secure" when closed, even though it doesn't close all the way when new + packed full of cards. The bifold feels a little big, but I may be able to get used to it - my old wallet was trifold. A minor advantage of the bifold is that the logo is embossed on the front - although the (plastic?) logo on the trifold does not seem to be a problem at all. Conclusion The Levi's wallets are great! I'm going to try the bifold because it is bigger, holds more cards, and cards are easy to take in and out of it with one hand - but I may come back to the trifold if I ditch some cards, or I just miss the shape of the trifold that I've had for about 20 years before this one. Packaging note: The packaging on all of these was over the top, the timberland wallet was the only one in a nice, normal cardboard box; also, i might use the tins from the levis wallets
