Application Not for the Faint of Heart
I received my delightful treetop decal nine days after the confirmed ship date. it comes rolled up like a poster in a tall box. It is precut into five main sections A-E. A and B being somewhat monstrous in size, C, D, and E being little accent branches. I was too excited to wait for friends to assist me, so I went at this 100" wide sticker alone. HOLY. Like other reviewers who thankfully tried this before me, I cut the largest sections into more reasonably sized pieces. Take a credit card, rub the whole image before you even start peeling. Now, it suggests you use painters tape to hold the image in place where you want to apply it. If you're like me, and want the tree to be flush with both the ceiling and the wall, you have to cut off the top and side margins before even beginning. Simply pull the tougher paper (the non-adherent, glossy backing) off the image about two inches, line it into the corner, and the decal plus the top paper (a sort of wax paper/masking tape consistency) adhere right to the wall. No painters tape necessary. I discovered my ceiling wasn't entirely level which made me irate in a way I can't even describe. It made aligning subsequent pieces somewhat difficult, and noticeable probably only to me. I left the top layer over the pieces and continued on, adhering all of the pieces step by step, intending to magically pull off all the backings for one huge reveal at the end. Don't do this. Trust me. God forbid you laid piece B slightly over piece A, you have to somehow unadhere B to get the backing off A and AHHH. Just don't. And strangely, the longer you leave the front paper on the decal (and on the wall) the harder it is the remove from the wall. Remove the top layer as you go. Lay the credit card flush with the wall and slide it left to right as if you're screenprinting.. while simultaneously pulling the backing off. From start to finish it probably took me three hours, alone. You'll swear a lot. And sweat. And the decal plastic smells vaguely like old dank cigarette smoke, but only because you're nose to nose with it for several hours. (This in no way makes your room smell or should effect your decision to purchase. Do it!) It was both the most infuriating and most rewarding thing I have done in months. Friends love it, I love it, and it's worth every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears.
Oh, and as for ordering, the guys at Stickerbrand are lovely. Follow the directions. Measure first and make sure you want such-and-sucha size. Place your order. Write the sales email on the site. Say, this is my name, and this is my order number, and this is what I ordered. I want this color. And in my case, I wanted this image in reverse. A confirmation email came the same day, they told me if I needed anything else they were happy to help. It arrived as ordered, in black, in reverse, sumo-sized. No trouble whatsoever.
