I've had mine for several years until the ratchet mechanism failed as several others have reported here. Mine is an older model with a different knob on the end but I suspect with the same plastic ratchet mechanism inside that creates the tension to keep the paper towel roll from spinning freely when a sheet is torn off. The fix was to unscrew the spindle and fit two washers between the end of the spindle and the bracket that holds the unit to your cabinet or wall. I cut the washers, about 1-1/2" diameter, out of a sheet of felt. Punched a 1/4" hole in the center for the threaded screw with a paper punch. I used felt that has adhesive on one side but left the release paper in place, probably not important. It took two of these washers to fill the gap enough to create the needed tension. This paper towel holder is so unique and I like how works so much that it was worth the effort to fix it. - WA6EJO
