Best tipping cap if you....
To achieve a heavy silver highlight look (salt & pepper) look, I have been using this tipping cap every 3-4 months for over 10 years and have discovered some useful techniques when using it. I have a hat size of 7 & 1/2 and have medium length hair (for a guy). People with hat sizes larger than 7 and/or people with very thick hair, may experience a little more difficulty when using this product. These are a few things I have felt useful when using this product: (1) I apply a generous amount of virgin coconut oil throughout my hair after waiting at least 24 hours since the last shampoo. This is better for hair, facilitates pulling the strands through the cap & expedites the bleaching process. (2) I apply a 1CM width strip of duct tape and double ply it to the inside and outside of the cap to extend about 6 inches beyond the cap margins - on both sides. This is a makeshift way of securing the cap under your chin in a shoe-tie fashion. This has prevented the cap from pulling up a bit off the head and maintains even coverage as it conforms to the shape of your head. (3) After I apply the bleach (I have tried just about every type of lift & developer and in my opinion, Ion Color Brilliance Sensitive Scalp 30 Volume Creme Developer & Schwarzkopf BLONDME Premium Lift - to be the best, quickest and least irritating to the scalp bleaching combo), then I secure two processing caps over this. My medium thick, level 4 (dark brown) hair will bleach to the desired pale yellow color in 30 minutes. I do not bleach until my hair is "white" (which can severely damage the hair) and I do NOT use heat. Too much heat can cause the bleach to expand too much and "bleed" back through the holes onto the scalp. (a little warmth with a blow dryer for about 5 minutes set on LOW setting is ok to activate the chemicals for thick level 1,2 hair) (4) After the bleaching process, I wipe the bleaching mixture with a damp towel first & then LIGHTLY rinse. I do NOT remove the cap yet. This allows me to apply toner over the cap and on to the freshly bleached strands for an additional 15 minutes (I use Wella Color Charm Toner - #T18 [Lightest Ash Blonde] and 30 Volume Creme Developer to achieve the white/silver color). I also apply a hair processing over the toner as well. (5) Thoroughly rinse off the toner over a sink first & then shampoo (with the Magicap still on). It is at this point that I remove the Magicap and shampoo/condition all my hair. This whole process takes one hour and I can achieve the highlighting look I want in less time at a fraction of the cost. To keep the silver tone and prevent the brassy tone, I thoroughly saturate my hair with shimmer lights conditioner under a processing cap for about 45-60 minutes every week. These are some of the pertinent things I have found to be helpful when using this cap. I hope this helps .... Good Luck!
