I've purchased five humidistats over the past five years; I've trashed five of them over the past five years. This is the first one that actually works as advertised. I love that it can be calibrated. Just use a 2:1 ratio by weight of table or sea salt (NaCl) to water solution in a sealable container, insert something for the AcuRite to sit on (out of the water, of course), seal the top, and give the container time to develop a stable 75% humidity. After the humidity reading settles down, note the discrepancy from 75 degrees, remove the AcuRite and let it adjust itself to the new humidity level outside the container. DON'T THROW AWAY THE SALT SOLUTION AND CONTAINER. Then follow the directions for calibrating the unit. Do the procedure all over again to make sure you calibrated it correctly. Repeat until the AcuRite reads 75% inside the sealed container with salt solution. It's a piece of cake. And on top of that great little perk, the unit reads the humidity and reports it every 15 seconds. So you don't have to wait half an hour for it to give you a reading, like most other units on the market.
