Coconut milk, whipped cream, Nesquik, oh my!
I have recently cut back my dairy intake (I know, I know, no one cares about my diet) and switched almost exclusively to coconut milk. I purchased this little frother because, quite frankly, I am inept at frothing coconut milk with the steam wand attached to my espresso machine. This is truly a tragedy as I very much enjoy a nice layer of foam in my homemade lattes. Coconut milk is harder to get foamy without scorching it (Scorched coconut milk is also a tragedy). Or maybe I just wasn't cut out to be a world class barista... Regardless. I am happy to report that this little gadget froths coconut milk marvelously! I was incredibly pleased (and a bit suprised, truth be told) at how well it worked. It doesn't get quite as fluffy as regular milk, and it takes a bit longer, but it does indeed work. While I bought this specifically for frothing milk, I have been equally pleased with the other uses for it that I have stumbled across. For instance; -Chocolate milk. You know those nights you come home after a long day of work and all you want is a giant glass of creamy chocolate milk? But then when you go to make said chocolate milk you are met with a clumpy, gritty, dairy disaster where your talk glass of chocolate heaven should be? NO MORE, I SAY. This frother mixes chocolate milk better than anything I've ever seen. Perfectly blended deliciousness, like you deserve, you rock star you. -Whipped cream. Some days (and by that I mean all days) I want a fluffy white dollop of heaven on my latte. And not that canned stuff that is like 3% actual cream, 84% oil, and 13% magic compressed air. OH NO. I want the real deal, fresh from the cow, 100% cream whipping cream (trust me, if you try it you will never go back). BUT YOU JUST SAID YOU WERE CUTTING BACK DAIRY. Work in progress, okay? I'm still human. Thanks to this little frother, I can whip (ahhaaa) up a single serving for myself in no time, whenever I want. It takes a little longer than regular milk, obviously, but it is worth it and cleanup is so much easier! -Eggs. This thing produces the fluffiest and most magically airy omelets you have ever eaten. Just try it. Even a chicken would eat one of them, that's how good they are. ALSO. Some troubleshooting/tips if you are having issues... -I have found that COLD coconut milk froths 1000x better/easier than room temp or hot. If you can't get it to get fluffy for you, try frothing it straight from the fridge. - If it doesn't seem to be frothing well, make sure the shaft isn't bent. The metal rod is thin and easily warped if you aren't careful (like if you slam a drawer on it or your 2 year old mistakes it for her favorite hammer toy). I was getting frustrated with it one morning because it was not producing any froth and my coffee was getting cold (UNACCEPTABLE) when I noticed it was spinning a little off-kilter (that's Southern speak) because the rod was bent (I'm blaming the toddler, she has it out for me). A tiny adjustment to straighten it back up and it worked great. I have attached some pictures of my glorious coconut milk froth. It is just your basic unsweetened Silk brand coconut milk.
