I originally purchased this to separate the grease from the water after smoking meat in a Weber Smoky Mountain. For those not familiar with this smoker, once the cook is completed, there is usually 3 to 5 gallons of nasty water residue in a 20" diameter steel bowl with varying amount of grease floating on the top. (The amount of grease depends on what meat was smoked.) The water residue can go down the drain (via the toilet) but for years I have fought how to dispose of the grease without coating the inside of my pipes. I tried "this and that" and all of them were a pain to use until I found this Gravy Separator last summer and it worked like a champ. Granted, 3 gallons of water took a few passes to complete but it not only did a great job separating the grease from the water, the filter on the top caught all of the solid debris. Then I tried it on the Thanksgiving turkey. I let the disposable aluminum roasting pan overhang the counter edge a little bit and punctured a hole in the bottom of the pan, letting everything drain into the Gravy Separator. Worked like a champ. Saves time and messes. Easy to clean. Great kitchen tool. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.
