Battery Designed To Not Be Replaced And Tracking Software Is Not Something I Recommend
Review of Philips Sonicare ExpertClean 7500 Black, Rechargeable electric power toothbrush, HX9690/05.
To ensure that users purchase replacements the battery is designed so that the handle has to be destroyed to remove the battery.
Received with:
• Two brush heads: Premium Plaque Control (C3) and Premium Gum Care (G3).
• An AC charger with short USB cable for use with the travel case.
• AC charger with charging stand with approximately 43 inches of useful cord length and stand two-prong plug.
• Plastic travel/storage case.
User must remember the codes for the brush heads and the name is not imprinted on the brush head. C3 = Clean or Deep Clean, G3 = Gum and W3 = Whitening (if you purchased this brush head). There is a microchip in the brush heads that preset both the intensity and mode although either can be selected. To change mode press the Mode (lower) button to toggle through the modes. To change intensity start the toothbrush and cycle through the three settings by pressing the Mode button.
The only identified difference between deep clean mode and clean mode is the duration (30 seconds or 20 seconds per segment with each jaw split into three segments). Total duration would be 3 minutes for deep clean and 2 minutes for clean.
Per manufacturer:
3 intensities: Low, Medium, High
Clean: For exceptional everyday clean
Deep Clean+: For an invigorating deep clean
Gum Health: Special attention to molars
White+: To remove surface stains – Requires additional purchase of W3 brush head.
Handle has visible indication of need to recharge and when to replace brush heads.
For initial receipt Sonicare suggests brush teeth once and then recharge for at least 24 hours.
The display on the brush handle will turn on when motion is detected and turn itself off when motionless for about 30 seconds.
There is a sanitizer available as an additional purchase.
There is a gap between the base of the installed brush head and the top of the brush handle and this is even mentioned in the user guide (user guide not currently available online so keep the hard copy).
Initial use – Sonicare is based upon dividing the mouth into six segments which is a little different than the quadrants (4 sections) that I am used to. The signal that the period is up and to move on is very brief and subtle. Can’t say that this cleaned any better or worse than my current premium toothbrush that was so old I had the battery replaced after 10 years of use. I used the G3 (gum care mode) to test the sensation more.
Overall I like the toothbrush but the business practice of not having user replaceable batteries is not environmentally responsible and is consumer unfriendly and I will deduct a star for that.
I think that I can remember if I brushed or not so am not going to install their software or allow a bluetooth connection which also blocks any possible selling or theft of personal data and information. Therefore I am not reviewing their software.
