This Proctor Silex 34300 Buffet Server & Warming Tray, with three stainless steel removable pans (with plastic lids) is something which we will find to be very useful when we have company. Following the instructions, we "seasoned" it (plugged it in and let it run for 10 minutes at maximum heat). We did not notice any inordinate odor, though there was some small discernible "electric" odor. So now it's ready to use. (We also tried it later in the day, just letting it run empty (with the pans and lids placed on it) for about a half-hour. We did this just to see how hot it would get and if there were anything untoward happening. There were none. We found that the temperature gets to about 180° maximum and will hold your food at that temperature for as long as necessary. My wife and I like the features: you can use it with one, two or all three of the pans (which can be washed in the dishwasher) or you can use it with your own plates if desired. The unit we got is extremely well-constructed and we believe that it will last a very long time. I do wish that it had come with some sort of storage bag. All in all, at its price (about $60.00), it represents good value for money and my wife and I can highly recommend it. Thank you for reading this and for considering our opinions. Lawrence H. Bulk
