Excellent scale
I refer everyone considering buying this scale to the EXCELLENT review by Ginkgo. I bought it based on that review, as well as a few others. Apparently they have redesigned the weighing platform, as it is now completely different from many of the customer images and there is no longer any need to modify the weighing pan as Ginkgo recommends. There is no way that the pan will make contact with the body of the scale. In my own testing, I weighed an empty size "0" gelatin capsule, as well as capsules that I had put medication in. Weighing the empty capsule 10 times, removing it from the scale in between each weighing, gave the following gram readings: .095, .095, .095, .095, .095, .095, .095, .095, .094, .094, all with the draft shield open, and the following readings with it closed: .089, .089, . 089, .089, .089, .089, .089, .089, .088, .088 (you are supposed to close the draft shield for more accurate measurements). In weighing 10 filled (by myself) capsules, twice each; both readings were the same for 8 capsules and varied 1 mg for 2 individual capsules for the 2 weighings. I also wanted to see what the minimum weight the scale would record since the description seems to indicate that it will weigh items in the 1 mg range. I did not find this to be the case. I cut pieces of tin foil smaller and smaller, and when I cut a piece that weighed 10 mg (.010 g) in half, and placed it on the tray, the scale did not show a reading (other than the 0.000 g zeroed reading). That is, however, within the +- .005 g accuracy that is claimed. I think that if you are weighing such minuscule amounts, you will need to buy a more accurate scale, at a MUCH higher price. We are talking thousands of dollars here. So, I am very pleased with the scale itself, thus the 5 star rating; Amazon's packaging, is another story. A very sad story. I ordered 2 other items in the same order as this scale, and they all came in the same box as expected. What was not expected, however, is that the precision scale was not wrapped in bubble wrap, or some such protection; it was placed in the box, along with the 2 other items (one of which was a quart of liniment) and a crumpled-up piece of paper placed on top of the items which afforded absolutely NO protection to the items; at most, restricting the items to bounce around in the BOTTOM of the box. The scale was therefore free to bounce around in the box all along its way from Amazon to me. One of the calibration weights, the weighing pan, and the tweezers were out of their storage compartments, so it seems that the scale did indeed do some amount of bouncing around. I am amazed that the scale is still as accurate as it is, after surviving such a trip. The liniment was fine. Amazon started out years ago selling books, which need practically no protection, and they seem to treat everything they sell like it's a book. I gave negative "packaging feedback" in hopes that they will start to take more care in their packaging of delicate items.
