Good Value For Lighter Storage Items
This Keter Westwood Deck Storage Container is a nice looking bench with ample inner space w its 150 gal capacity. This bench easily fits 3 adults sitting on top, and it feels sturdy enough to do so. All the pieces of the storage container are plastic, except for two metal rails that run along the lengths of the top of the bench box (not the cover), and the two metal pneumatic hinges that open the cover off the box (and the included screws and latches of course). The assembly is a literal "snap" of the pieces connecting to each other, and once together, you add some screws for stability. This took my husband 25 min. to put together, and 1/2 of that time was just going through the picture instructions. We have had Keter's 70 gal Patio Bench for over 2 years now Keter Eden 70 Gallon All Weather Outdoor Patio Storage Garden Bench Deck Box, Brown/Brown (you can see it in the background in my pic) and it's held up well overall, with no significant fading (altho it has never been in the direct sunlight). This 150 gal storage container is longer, wider and taller than our Patio Bench, and the top is more sturdy. Additionally, this 150 gal is much more well machined than our original 70 gal, which gave us a lot of problems snapping together. By contrast, this 150's connecting parts fit well together, and the screw holes lined up where they needed to be. The minor criticism I'd have for the Keters is that they are not extremely sturdy like the Rubbermaids- the screws are very short (see pic), and more importantly, the bottom panels are so thin, that any reasonable amount of weight in your storage causes it to bend downwards and hit the cement/ ground underneath. This bench is great for light pool equipment or patio furniture cushions, but not necessarily for anything w significant weight. On the plus side, and what makes these Keters still quite worthwhile, is the lower price, decent appearance, and that they seem waterproof from rain. Our patio bench has not had any water incursions despite the floor hitting the cement underneath, through two winters, and one winter with significant rain. As for appearance, there is no question that these are plastic- no mistaking them for wood, but the color is a deep dark brown, and seems to blend in within a neutral backdrop. For simple storage at a lower price point, these are a good value.
