I felt like I had stepped into the living word of the ...
I saw the movie Paul The Apostle of Christ last night! Thanks to the thorough teaching of scripture from our GodStudy bible teacher, Jerry Parks, I felt like I had stepped into the living word of the Bible! Like you said, the acting was superb! Every character played their part with such intensity. From Priscilla to Aquila to Luke and Paul to the Roman Prefect to the young rebels to the young boy who carried the message...I hung on every word mesmerized and transported into their lives. I also liked that we weren’t listening to all British accents. I loved the flashbacks into Paul’s prior conversion life. I never got the feeling of ‘dark and depressing’, just very realistic representation of Roman government as it was and impacted believers, as well as those spreading the word, government officials, Jews and Gentiles in early days after resurrection. I think they did a great job in
bringing a broad cross section of life under Roman rule. The producers had a perfect opportunity to horrify the viewer with ‘blood and guts’, graphic scenes of reality in Rome under Nero’s rule, but depicted Nero’s ‘circus games’, torture and brutality without unnecessary gore on the screen. If anything, they understated it and kept the focus on “The Way”. I was spellbound and held captive from beginning to end listening to scripture as it was created coming from the mouths of those (actors) who wrote it. The humor and dialogue and reactions built the biblical personalities and brought humanity into the story. I also noticed how they used light and the lack of it to effect the darkness of those days and contrasted it with brightness in the hopeful, uplifting scenes. Sadly, there were many times where I could connect the past with the our present and envision the fate of the future. The very last scene, though, tied it all together in our hope and assurance of victory. My own relationship with Christ pales while I watched what theirs looked like and what it cost and why they were willing to pay the price....I give the movie 10 ⭐️!
