The pads themselves seem to deliver the 4% Lidocaine that they advertise rather fast. I have only used 5% prescription pads before. Thus the only "yardstick" by which I can compare these non-prescription 4% pads is the 5% product. These 4% Lidocaine pads` seem to work as well as the prescription version for my requirement[ intense upper leg pain-around the hip area.] THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE PACKAGING HOWEVER. The pad within the sealed envelope is too close to the top edge of the envelope. IF YOU CUT USING the PRINTED CUTTING GUIDELINE, YOU MAY CUT OFF A SMALL SLIVER OF THE ACTIVE PRODUCT. Because of the nature of the product you cannot get product to slide down lower in the envelope in which it is packed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am able to avoid cutting off a sliver of product by the following: I cut open the envelope about 3/8 inch ABOVE the dotted printed cut line. THEN I ONLY cut about 1/2 inch. At this point I can see the top edge of the pad through the slit in the envelope. I then stop and open the envelope enough to insert a scissors or knife blade. After inserting a scissors or knife blade I can see the top edge of the active pad. Then I can continue to cut across the envelope without cutting off any of the actual pad product. There are several other brands of 4% Lidocaine pads that may not have this packaging problem. I PLAN TO ORDER ANOTHER BRAND that doesn't require me to be so careful in opening the sealed envelope. Hopefully the manufacturer or vendor will read this review and change product packaging to place the actual active pad further away from the cut line to solve the opening packaging problem. `
