IS USDA certified!
I have read at least one review on here that said this product is not USDA certified Organic and I just want to be clear: I bought the 2 bags advertised above of Starwest Botanicals Item# 209975-51 Turmeric Root Powder Organic Curcumin Longa Origin: India. Mine is lot# 50615 and is stamped USDA Organic and QAI Certified Organic. I know there has been some confusion in regards to reviewer claims, but those are the listed facts. If you are going to make claims about a product in your review, please provide substantiated proof. Put up or shut up. Stop saying things without sharing what you claim to know. On to my review. I have bought several brands of turmeric, just wanting to taste the differences between them. Of the ones I have tried, this one seems to be the most potent contender so far. Turmeric is supposed to have an almost musty aroma, and is somewhat bitter in taste. Color may vary by turmeric variety, so keep your pants on, it shouldn't be the sole characteristic you judge turmeric by. Not everyone knows there are several kinds. As soon as I got my turmeric home, I cracked open a fresh pack and gently inhaled; it smelled potent, as I expected. I poured it from its foil zip pouch into a storage container and added at least a tablespoon of pepper (fresh-cracked is best) and a couple teaspoons of ground cayenne pepper. (Get all spices non-irradiated for best health benefits). Mix well with a whisk, I added these spices because I use turmeric for health benefits (it has probably 600 or more that have been studied) and those particular spices help you reap the benefits of the turmeric (and other herbs, etc) by increasing absorption. Take your desired amount of this concoction along with some olive oil (or other healthy fat) and you will thank me later! You can also just mix the turmeric mix into food, but be sure to take the olive oil with it. I have noticed that I feel better for about a whole day after I take my magic turmeric voodoo concoction. I suspect taking it 2 times a day would be even better. Take note of the fact that turmeric is not considered a pregnancy-safe food. People with gallbladder disease are not supposed to take turmeric, I am told. -Do your research, that's on you, no matter what it is you take. I have read that turmeric can kill cancer cells while not hurting healthy cells. It also is said to help arthritis and helps heal wounds. I have read that it can help prevent Alzheimer's disease and detoxifies the liver by increasing the production of enzymes, which is major. Apparently, a teaspoon of turmeric per meal can help with weightloss and is an all-around immune-booster. Lots of people don't like the taste of turmeric, but lots of people get cancer, so don't be like those fools who are pansies to the taste. And trust me, it may be an acquired taste, but those can be the best kind of tastes. With this particular product, you get 2 whole bags, 2 lb! Start on a 1/2 tsp a day, work your way up and see what it does for you. If you like, you can even find recipes on Pinterest or just Google "turmeric recipes" and you might find an easy way to take it. Or just capsulize it yourself, which is more affordable than letting some factory do it and add things like magnesium stearate and other ingredients of questionable nutritional integrity, such as titanium dioxide. Who wants that? But I digress. This product has a deeper color than other varieties I have tried, just so you know. Start with small changes and you can steadily work your way to good health. And you'll be so glad you did.
