My Cats are OBSESSED!
January 2018 Update: The Litter Robot has now been part of our lives for 2 years. I still have not had significant issues with it. At one point it was having trouble cycling, but after pushing the bonnet back down, it took care of that problem. It was also acting a little screwy one night, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and that fixed the problem. Other than that I have had no issues. I have moved since the pictures I posted, so I now have the robot tucked away in the closet underneath the stairs. I leave the door cracked and the cats can go in an out as they please. It has worked really well. Everything I wrote in the original review stands true today except for the cats aren't quite as obsessed with watching it cycle anymore. They will still go watch it on occasion, but it isn't the mad dash it used to be. I guess the novelty has worn off and they have grown accustomed to their life of luxurious pooping. -- January 2017 Update: I have had the Litter Robot for a full year. I have not had any issues with it during this time. It is still working just as well as the day I got it (It is just in need of a good cleaning). Everything I wrote in my original review below stands true today. I still fully believe that spending $450 on a litter box is absolutely ludicrous, but it is the best decision I have made as a cat mom and I would make the same purchase again, especially now knowing that it is a quality product. -- Cost: I am two months in with the Litter Robot, and I am very happy with my purchase. I know the price tag is shocking, but at least in my case it was well worth the cost and then some. If I could go back, I would buy it again and happily pay the same amount. Usage: With two cats, I empty the box once a week. One of my cats is small and fits in the box no problem. The other one carries a little more... fluff. She was not sold on the litter robot right away and took it out on my bed a couple times. Once I completely removed the old box (which I purposely hadn't cleaned for some time to encourage litter robot use) and closed my bedroom door, she gave the litter robot a chance and hasn't looked back since. The litter robot is big enough for large cats, I think mine had trouble with it at first because she was used to an open box with lots of extra space. Obsession: My cats are now absolutely obsessed with it. When they hear it start to run they take off from where ever they are (sometimes in a deep sleep) to go watch it. Other times I catch them sitting next to it, waiting for it to cycle (pictured). When it does cycle they both stick their heads in to watch it. One thing I am not fond of is that they now try to swat at the waste as it falls down. For obvious reasons, this is not preferred behavior, but my cats are weirdos, so you probably have nothing to worry about. I am pretty sure they make more trips to the litter box now than they did in the past just so that they can see it cycle. Auto Stop: The little one tried to go in right as it started cycling once and it stopped instantly. It scared her, but not enough to keep her from using the box. Noise: It is not loud, and the noise it does make is easy to ignore. I have more of a problem the cat knocking the wind out of me when she leaps off my chest to go run and watch it. It has the 8 hour delay, but I have never used it as the noise it makes is not enough to bother me. Litter: I had a ~25-30 pound tub of Tidy Cats clumping kitty litter that I filled the box with initially. I have put in a few cup fulls here and there to replenish, but I still have half of that tub left, whereas I used to go through a tub a month. This has essentially cut litter use by 75%. Performance: In the two months I have had the box, it has not had any issues with its performance. If I should experience some going forward, I will update this review.
