I'm 69 and a couple of months ago had spine surgery -- a double lumbar fusion--to keep me mobile in my golden years. As some of you will know, recovery from back surgery takes months. And absolutely required is supportive bedding, from mattress to pillow. This product came through for me on the pillow side. I'm a side sleeper, and with ordinary pillows my neck and shoulders tend to sag downwards, putting my upper spine out of alignment with the lower part. This problem could prevent my fusion from happening over time as it should. So out of desperation I tried this pillow, and it has come through. First, it's big. A bigger pillow gives you more options -- and doubly so when the pillow's firmness can be adjusted. I put the pillow into my dryer for 20 minutes to get rid of the chemical smell, then installed it on my bed, getting rid of two inferior foam pillows to make room. The memory foam shapes itself to your head/neck contours but it does not collapse. Instead, it supports. With it supporting my head, neck and upper body, I am able to keep my back in a straight line from top to bottom. My back loves this. I know because I have no lumbar symptoms. When using smaller and less supportive pillows my back frequently would shoot out microseconds of nerve pain. I'm sure many side sleepers who don't have back issues would nevertheless find this pillow able to provide them with a better sleep. From my experience as someone who is hypersensitive to poor back alignment, I can verify that for many, this pillow could be the solution.
