1/30 Little Giant pump & safety s/w
I got this Little Giant pump to mount with a new Frigidaire Dehumidifier for the cellar. It is not really wet just gets musty without the dehumidifier running. It can fill the 2 gallon bucket in about a day and a half.
Mounted both on a board, just to keep thing tidy and so they don't get moved around.
It has worked very well and I don't have to empty the bucket any more. The old Dehumidifier (10 year old Maytag) would not stop when the bucket was full sometimes and would dump a load of water on the floor. Major pain.
This has so far solved the problem and the bucket runs dry all the time. This pump sends the water up and out via the washing machine drain, a lift of about 7 feet. Duty cycle is around once hourly and it runs almost silent and for a very short time - less the 20 seconds.
I would recommend it to anyone.
The dehumidifier we picked to replace the Maytag is a Frigidaire FAD704DUD 70 Pt. Dehumidifier, so far it has run flawlessly but only time will tell. The reviews ranged from "the best thing I ever brought" - to "load of crap don't by it". Like many others - somewhat confusing. In the end you just have to pick one and hope Brown delivers it gently and the right way up. It arrived in only the carton Frigidaire packs it in. It has a life-size color picture on the box. Maybe that's why to arrive the right way up :) Still I let it stand for a few hours and then plugged it in and it has worked fine so far. With only the thin card box though - I thing we were lucky it got here in one piece.
In the instructions, which are sparse to say the least, but do come in 4 different languages :) It did not say to bung up the orifice that empties into the internal bucket when you affix the hose on the back for constant draining. The upshot was the pump tank filled more slowly and the internal bucket also filled in the unit. I just cut a cork down so it fit and that solved the problem all the water goes out the hose in back to the pump.
It has been just a few weeks but I will update this if things should change. So far you could not go wrong with this set up if you have a cellar that produces around 2 gallons of moisture a day. I am sure it would do well with more as well. The little Giant is a very efficient pump.
One last thing I would also recommend is - purchase the extra plastic "Little Giant CV-10 Check Valve" with it for around $6.00. The one in the pump when it arrives would allow the water in the plastic 3/8" pipe - with around 7 feet of head in it, to drain slowly back into the tank and not maintain a seal. After a day or so I replaced it with the one I had purchased and it works a lot better Pump duty cycle much reduced and being 110volt saves a bit of electricity every day.
Well worth the $6.00
