You would be crazy not to buy/use them, a lot of them!
These thing can save you literally thousands of dollars associated with repair of water damage. I have installed one under every sink, dishwasher, behind every toilet, washing machine and refrigerator (ice maker water supply). Essentially, any place where there is a water supply to a faucet or appliance. Most water damage is not the result of a catastrophic failure (ex pipe or water supply line break), but a small leak in the appliance, or drain that goes unnoticed for an extended period time. These things are really sensitive; the smallest amount of moisture will trigger the alarm and it is loud. A good quality battery is supposed to last 5 years but I would test the unit and inspect the battery yearly. The detachable sensor makes it possible to install in a normally hard to access area, for example, underneath a dishwasher and have the alarm unit in the sink cabinet. In this application I modified the unit adding a On/Off switch to turn easily turn alarm off instead of having to futz with removing the battery while the alarm is SCREAMIMG at you. (Getting the battery access cover off and the battery disconnected could be made easier.) What would make these units perfect is if they were mesh connected to a hub unit that could connect wirelessly to my internet connection. An alarm event would send me and alternate either a text/e-mail, or both. I could image adding a whole house water shut off that could automatically shut off the water to deal with a catastrophic failure when no one is home.
