Great concept, expect a learning curve
I was excited when I first learned about the squatting concept and Squatty Potty, and opted for this entry-level model (molded plastic) to try it out. I've owned about a month now. PROS: - I find that I do feel better in a more "natural" squatting posture. - Accommodates both beginning (sitting) and advanced (squatting) users. You can choose to remain seated, or actually squat, putting weight into your legs and hovering above the seat. - If you travel to non-Western countries and/or spend a lot of time outdoors, knowing the squatting posture will be very handy. - Bonus if you do yoga: this is essentially a malasana or "garland" pose. Practice doesn't have to end when you're off the mat! CONS: - Pants can get in the way! Not sure if this is a learning curve for me, but I haven't figured out a graceful way to sit that doesn't involve completely removing my trousers. - Even when it's tucked under the bowl, it's still in the way when standing to use the toilet (I have to "widen my stance"). - Not sure about the health claims, but I don't suffer any maladies. So I would still recommend to "healthy" people. Prevention is the best medicine! LEARNINGS: - The foot pads may seem a little too far apart when you first start using SP. As you get used to it, your hip bones will adjust. I am an average-sized man (32" waist, 38" chest) and at first I had to put my feet on the inside of the foot pads. Now a few weeks later and I can easily use the foot pads properly I hope the company listens to earnest feedback and continues to "build a better potty"!
