Initial Review (short summary and/or Long detail comprehensive) and 1 year later updated review
(Updated: 1 year later review, please see below at the bottom under update review) Initial Review: This review is based on a small Bluetooth earbud that cost $20, so if you have exceptionally high expectation please reset your expectation and set it to a manageable realistic level. This is a long and fairly thorough review. If you don’t want the details and just the gist of it read the summary. Or check out the Content below summary to read whichever section you want more details about. Thank you for reading my review. Summary (to the point): The Nenrent S570 is very lite, about the size of my pinky and very comfortable to wear for long durations. The manual has inaccuracies, but its readability is manageable for me to operate the earbud. The sound quality is quite good for both music, podcast and calls (had no issue at all). If you are looking for a small lite weight earbud that has fairly good sound clarity and last up to 6 hours then this may be the right one for you (it was for me). Content: (skip to any part you want to read) 1. First Impression (item un-packaging, Looks, quality feel, pictures) 2. Manual (readability, common sense, language, mistakes, warranty) 3. Product Functionality (does it work as it’s stated, thorough test in many parts) 4. My personal opinion as a buyer (is it worth it for the price) 1. First Impression The Nenrent earbud comes in a fist size black box that slides open from pulling on a little black ribbon tab, similar to opening a drawer. Inside of the box is a half fist size red zipper type sturdy hard shell case with a carbon fiber design look to it. Inside that we have an earbud, 2 bud tips, USB charging cord, aluminum carabiner key chain clip hook, and a Nenrent S570 manual. I was pleasantly surprise that it came with a nice looking hard shell case and an aluminum carabiner key chain clip hook. Please take a look at the illustrations I have uploaded which includes everything I have mention including size measurements. One minor issue I see for others is that the two bud tips are the same size instead of a variety of sizes which may allow for a better fit option for some buyers, but for me and my small ears it fits very well. The earbud is extremely light and has a simple design and color that doesn’t stand out. The earbud does not look too sturdy with its plastic like shell and may not be able to handle any trauma; so please be careful not to drop it on hard ground. Everything unpacked and looks really nice; got a little bit more than I expected for the price, but we will see how it handles in the real world test. 2. Manual This manual is one long folded strip of paper about 16” across and 3” height (see illustrations) with typed instruction, pictures and a chart on front and back of strip of paper. The manual is written in something similar to “Times New Roman” size 6 font; so quite small and may need magnifying glass to better read the instructions. The manual does not indicate/itemize what you are supposed to receive in the package. The instructions and information provided on the manual are not perfect, but not too difficult to understand. It would be consider quite good compare to some really poor written instructions I have seen. Since this earbud is not a complex product the instruction even though has a fair number of mistakes was not too difficult to get it in working order. One issue I found quite fast was the instruction says when charging the earbuds the indicator light is blue during the process and the light will go out when charge is complete. From my charging process the light was red and turned blue when fully charged. I let it charge on blue a few more minutes and stopped it because the manual does state a warning not to charge it too long or it may affect the headset (earbuds) or the battery life. Update: the manual doesn’t seem to reveal that any red LED exists on the earbud (no mention of red LED at all in the manual). Warranty: 1 year, but do not see any contact information. Also if you plan to give this as a gift, the person will not be able to use the warranty; so if warranty needs to be used the original buyer may try the warranty service. 3. Product Functionality Charging Battery: A red LED light comes on as soon as I connect the earbud to my laptop USB 2.0 with the provided USB charging cable. The initial charge completed in 22 minutes out of the box. The charging time stated in the manual is between 20 minutes to 2.5 hours (other location states 20 minutes to 2 hours on the same manual). After draining the battery completely it took me 1 hour 45 minutes to complete a full charge. Pairing via Bluetooth: The pairing via Bluetooth was simple and easy like the instruction states. Hold earbud MTB (multi-functional button) for about 5 second or until it flickers blue and red. Make sure your Bluetooth is on in your phone and select “NENRENT S570” to pair it to your device. Pairing signal Distance: I walked through 3 rooms measuring over 35 feet while still being connected. So the signal distance exceeds the distance of 10 meters as stated in the manual, which is definitely a plus here. Fit of Earbud in Ear: A. This earbud (without bud tip) while bare fits very comfortably in my ears. Mind you that I consider my ears to be fairly small and would usually use the smallest or near smallest bud tips with other headphone. This earbud is very small fitting and lite that I didn’t even notice I was wearing it at times. I wore this earbud all day listening to music without any discomfort. If you have concerns regarding the comfortability from wearing this earbud for an extended period of time I am here to reassure you that you will not be negatively affected by this earbud (I switch between ears). B. The earbud (with bud tip) fit well and increase the sound I hear with the same volume level. With the bud tip on it allows the earbud to fit more snugly in my ear. It fits more securely, so it may be better for active use like sports. Besides having a snugger fit I had to lower the volume by one to have it at the same sound level as before since the bud tip increase the sound level. Earbud Sound Quality: (To encompassing both high to low frequencies. I’ll test the earbud with classical music, Jazz, classic rock and Podcasts) A. Volume: The volume of music/sound is determined by your phone or whatever you’re connected with. The earbud volume/sound level is very good; I had no problem listening to music at the lowest volume setting. You will have no problem hearing things with this earbud. Remember to restrict the volume from going too high or it may damage your ears. The different type of music and podcasts I listen to were fine, not great, but passable. One thing I need to emphasis is that you are listening with one ear and that to me lessens the overall intensity and atmosphere that can be built up while listening to classical or other music. B. Sound Clarity: i. Music App: The sound is clear and pretty good (don’t forget this is a $20 earbud, not your $150-300 headphones) overall. With the variety of music I listen to (high and low frequency) ever note was heard, every pitch on point. This earbud took everything without complaint, no squeaks or static response from my bombardment of music. Again please bear in mind that this is all through one ear so the experience cannot be compared to dual ear devices. With music there are times I just like it in the background as pleasant noise and other times I want to fall into the sound of music and dive into its depth without a care around me. You cannot dive with these earbud, but background music is good and as a one piece earbud this is what I am looking for. ii. Phone Call: The phone call quality was perfect with no issues at all. The earbud clarity was crisp and clear and the other person on the other end of the line said the same thing, that everything was good and clear. iii. Podcasts: Just right for podcasts. Unlike music, podcasts does not demand as much attention to sound detail, but clarity. For me I can multitask while listening to my podcast through one ear and I think it’s better for me to do so with this earbud than using a dual ear device. Why you ask? Well for me having one ear free allows for better awareness around me and I am able to put more into what I am doing (multitasking). Earbud Battery Life: A. Music: This test was in a quiet office environment using my Samsung Galaxy phone to play music so the volume was set to a low volume of 2-4 (quite loud actually). The good thing is that the music sounds good and I am aware of my environment and able to hear what is around me. I never went beyond volume 7 on my phone (while using headphones or earbuds) but I think it goes up to at least 12, so 2-4 is about 20-30% volume level on my phone and I kept my phone within 3 feet from me for this test. The manual states 6 hours battery life at about 60% volume while listening to music. The earbud lasted 6 hours and 5 minutes before a vebal notice of “Battery Low” spoken by a female British voice. When that notice comes it will continue every few seconds so after three notice of battery low I shutdown the earbud. Battery life is fairly accurate; even though the volume was less than 60%. B. Phone talking time: Well, what can I say I don’t work as an operator so I can’t really test the on call battery life duration of 6-8 hours. So assuming calling time consume less power than music, it should last at least 6 hours with a mix of music and call. Multifunction Button: Personally tested. A. Bluetooth Pairing: hold for 5 second until blinking red/blue then pair to phone; no problem. B. Power On: Works as stated, 3 second hold and a verbal female announcement “Power On”. C. Power Off: Works as stated, 3 second hold and a verbal female announcement “Power Off”. D. Pause/play: tested and works well with music apps. E. Pick up phone call: no issue F. Put call on Hold (hold 2 second): works well G. Hang up call: works well 4. My Personal Opinion as a Buyer I think the Nenrent S570 is not the perfect product, but for the price it is outstanding. I was shopping for something very light weight without wires hanging around and not obtrusive while having fair quality sounds that last a few hours. The Nenrent S570 is the size of my pinky tip that provides 6 hours of playtime with clear quality sound. It is faultless for what I am looking for and for the price points what more can I ask for. It would be even better if it was water proof or at least resistance, but that is not a deal breaker for me. But for $20 it doesn’t hurt my pocket and I can allocate the money I save here to buy a water proof/resistance earbuds or headphone for active sports. My opinion and final verdict as a buyer is that the Nenrent S570 is a great buy for my purpose and price point. I hope my review of this product was of help to you. Thank you for reading my review. UPDATE review 2/07/2019 (note I bought this in December of 2017) Hello everyone, it has been a little over a year since my purchase of Nenrent S570 Bluetooth earbud and initial review (wanted to update on my previous review but cannot find it on Amazon so I reposted it now with this update) and now I would like to take this moment to tell everyone what I think of it since then. I use this little fella more and more compared to my other wired headphones, earphones, wireless/ Bluetooth sports ear buds because of how lightweight and comfortable it feels wearing it. When impression when using the S570 for walking and jogging felt so natural in my ear like I wasn’t even wearing it at all. My other wired and bluetooth headphones and earbuds will often bounce around and pull on my ears a bit. After I tried the S570 I realize the big difference. For me having one earbud that fits comfortable while listening to music or other audio play works well for me. As of today the Nenrent S570 still holds its charge well and works like the first day I bought it (maybe the charge may hold a little less, but that is to be expected). These may not have the best audio sound quality if that is what you are looking for, but for me the tradeoff of having it so lightweight portable and comfortable does it for me. PS: For those that likes listening to music while walking or jogging in the city this earbud may work for you because you can still listen to music and have one ear free and alert to hear any warning around your environment for your safety (too fully immerse in music may cause accidents outside, expecially in high traffic areas). My opinion and final verdict as a buyer is that the Nenrent S570 is a great buy for my purpose and price point. I hope my review of this product was of help to you. Thank you for reading my review.
