Works With Big John/Raised Toilet Seats, Great For Seniors
My elderly father requires a raised toilet seat because he's too weak to rise from the average toilet. This means he's also too weak to lift himself and clean properly, a problem I knew a bidet could help with. Unfortunately it seems that most bidet attachments will not work with most raised toilet seats, and specifically not with the Big John W1 toilet seat I chose for my dad. The toilet seat is perfect and he loves it, so I resolved to test as many bidet attachments as necessary to find one that could work for him. I purchased literally five different attachments, but stopped at three because I foudn this one :) I can tell you that between the Luxe Neo 120, the Astor Bidet CB-1000 and the Brondell Thinline, only this Thinline can be used in conjunction with the Big John W1. Though it does cause a small gap, enough that the seat will move side to side if you use your hands to test the stability, the seat stays firmly in place when it's sat on, which is the important thing. As for teaching an 84 year old how to use the thing... My dad found the knob easy to turn, but was confused by the fact that it's flat. It wasn't intuitive for him. He also gets confused about which way to turn it, so if you're planning to buy this for someone with some cognitive issues you might have to help your loved one through using it the first few times. But now that he has the hang of it my dad has found this attachment very useful. Previously he would have to clean up at the sink with color coded washcloths - difficult for him since he has trouble standing more than 20 seconds at a time, and dangerous because he would get water on the floor which could lead to him slipping and falling. This bidet attachment has completely replaced the whole sink wash up stage of his cleansing. He still needs to clean a little after and pat dry of course, but he doesn't need to spend so much time standing and the potential hazard of the wet floor is no longer an issue. I honestly think this bidet attachment has helped prolong my dad's being able to remain somewhat independent in his own apartment for awhile longer, which to me is worth far more than the cost. I'm grateful the Thinline offered a solution to his hygiene issues while also making it possible to use the seat he needs for stability and safety. Hope this review can save some time and trips to UPS to return 5 different bidet attachments for my fellow familial caretakers out there :)
