mostly simple
This isn't the typical Free App-of-the-Day amazon usually has, and judging by the product description this isn't aimed at a typical user. So here's a little background information that might help.
Servers ultimate pro allows your phone to send and recieve files wirelesssly to other people on the same wifi. It can host your own website, create a chat server, be used to stream video and music to other devices, securely connect to the internet, or access webpages blocked by a school or workplace filter. All of these capabilities are possible through the extensive list of protocols as listed in the product description. I'm trying to be as brief as possible, but basically protocols are best thought of as languages spoken by machines, e.g. FTP - the language for sharing files. Servers ultimate pro lets your device speak all these languages, so things like your DLNA tv can listen for movies to play.
The app itself is very clean. No ads, menus are not cluttered. It stays simple. I was surprised how quick it was to get a web server up. Just go to Simple and pick webserver from the menu. The external and internal ip address are shown immediately and optionally can be copied. Paste this into your browser and volia, a not so pretty directory listing of the contents on your phone. From here, getting the page set up is the tricky part.
My biggest concern is how unclear it is to change the settings for the server. It took me quite a bit of fiddling around. The help menu was not helpful, just a few quick blurbs about what each server does. The settings menu is for how the app itself behaves. Finally I discovered by stopping a server in the server menu, when tapping on a server you get the (very hidden) edit option. I would prefer after creation to be taken directly to the edit page, even if it took away from the simplicity of the tap and done effect.
In summary, aside from the problem with the edit option being hidden, I didn't see any other problems. I also tested the Ftp server and found it to be working. As for everything else, there's too much to be covered in one review. The practicality of having so many protocols comes into question. I can't really see myself using more than a quarter of these, or see anyone for that matter who would need to set up an email server from a mobile device. It may just be there for fun. At any rate, this app will be staying on my device, and was definitely worth the download.
