LOVE IT!
There were so few reviews of this product I was a bit worried about buying it. Well let me add a glowing review! It has only been a few hours but so far I am just in love with the performance, appearance, quality and the fit and finish of this unit! It is quiet and powerful with no vibrations or rattles (many reviews I read of other similar products had rattles/vibrations). It only took a few minutes to cool down my large living room then the compressor cycled off! I have no problem hearing the TV over it (unlike most window units big enough to cool this space!) The remote is very nice looking as well. What impresses me the most is the window insert-- It is thick and robust providing its own insulation power with the exception of the part where the actual duct hole is. (Photo #1) They also include several extra insert pieces so you can mix and match to get the best fit for your window. Then to top it off the pieces interlock with slots so you get a very tight fit. (photo #2) Now the locking holes are about 1 inch apart so you could have a situation where when you get a tight fit in the window a locking hole wont line up. However, it would be an easy matter to drill a custom hole in the track where you need to get the perfect fit. Now in my case the thickness fit my window track so perfectly I did not even need the locking holes. (photo #3) In fact, it fit so tightly I did not even use the provided foam insulation tape on three sides. I only used the insulation where the window comes down on to the top of the window insert (Photo #4). The duct is also robust and has a locking ring at the AC end and locking tabs on the window side. It is a stiff but flexible duct/ I don’t know the proper term but it clicks when you bend it then stays that way until you bend it again. OH! One thing that I was really concerned about when thinking about buying one of these units was water drainage. With a window unit the water just drips onto the grass. These inside units have a catch tank. Some reviews on some similar products where rife with the horrors of trying to drain the water tank. I have read that in many cases the tank never needs to be drained so I was thinking maybe it is not an issue. However it is VERY humid where I live so I expect to have to do this. So I was relieved to find: 1) The drain is up high, roughly in the middle of the unit on the back side. Very easy access. (some units have a drain at the very bottom and tipping, etc. is required to drain them) 2) The drain has a ‘nipple’ so a hose can easily be attached for draining into an old milk jug or whatever... 3) The hose would be about the diameter of your finger so it would not be big and bulky. So, if it turns out this unit does need to be drained I plan to run up to Home Depot and get some hose to fit then drill a hole in the window insert so I can just put the hose out the window with the hot air! In fact, the only con I can think of to this whole unit is it would have been nice of them to provide that drain hose and pre-punch the hole for it in the window insert. On the other hand I may not need to drain it? I will update this review on if I do or if anything about my opinion changes. Now, as I was writing this review I got cold and had to set the thermostat up some! THAT IS SO AWESOME! UPDATE -- One month later and I have never had to drain water from the unit and I still love it. So adding the drain hose this is totally unnecessary!
