After over a year, a version that works for uploads!!!!
If you haven't updated to the new "blue" version, DON'T! [edit: but apparently that's not an option; all the recent reviews say the new version is shoved down to them automatically now, so Amazon can now alienate their customers without you even having to ask!] The previous version was finally a halfway decent version, and now Amazon has messed it up again. This version crashes right and left, that is when it's not hanging. The user interface is awful - clunky, nonintuitive, and so slow. I get the impression that the only reason they rolled out the new version is to push their new subscription service, because for uploading your own music to the Amazon cloud or listening to your own music, this version is downright terrible. I would PAY to get the old version back! And based on the other review, so would many others.
Important update I'm putting at the top of all my previous updates. Finally, version 6.1.4.1205 is GREAT!!! Uploads are working flawlessly. Snappy, reliable interface - controls, menus, buttons, pulldowns, file lists, everything works instantly no matter what else is going on. It took a year of putting up with literally a horrible piece of barely or not working software, but suddenly it's very good! Changing from 1 star to 5 - it's that good (decided not to penalize for past failures because this one is so good). Leaving the whole sordid history below though.
Edit: A week later and it just gets worse and worse. It just sits there "Loading Your Songs" and can't do anything but cancel, and repeat. Reinstalled several times, no luck. You would think Amazon would have some competent programmers and testers - evidently not!
And Amazon, it's very misleading to use ratings from years ago for this new piece of junk. Reset the ratings to just cover the new release and it would drop from 4.5 stars to 1!
Update: After a couple of updates to version 5.1.0.1590.5.1.0.427, it's a lot more stable, in that it doesn't hang or crash quite so often. It's still a horrible user interface and user experience, and SLOW. Menu selections and such usually take many, many seconds. Hover bubbles stick around for random (long) lengths of time, covering up data and controls. Things jump around as you move the mouse around or click items (I just lover interfaces that move a button away from your cursor just as you reach for it!), and there's no way to know what's going on if you upload your own music. Just click, wait, and hope. Just an awful interface compared to the previous (pre-blue) release.
Update: 11/24/1016 Update to 5.2.2.1608.5.2.2.449 today is a setback. Comes up maybe 1 out of 10 tries. UI is still the same clunky mess, but now it's way slower than previous versions, and hangs unresponsive for minutes at a time. All I want to do is upload my own music to Amazon's cloud, and this program is terrible at it. When it does work, you have no idea if it is or not. Just walk away for a few hours, come back, try again and again until it tells you "those are already uploaded". Seriously, Amazon is obviously using us as involuntary beta testers - no pre-beta, it's that bad. I expected so much more Amazon. This is astonishingly bad They should stop selling their cloud music storage service until they have a program that lets you actually reliably use it!
Update 07/07/2017: Hallelujah! Newest update 5.6.0.1081 from a few days ago finally successfully uploads my music to the cloud! No crashes, no hangs. I've pushed it hard and have uploaded thousands of tracks in the last few days. Still has a few rough edges, like results messages usually don't have correct counts or correct error descriptions, but it finally does what it needs to since they replaced the previously working version with this one almost a year ago.
Update 09/17/2017: We'll, that was good while it lasted. As of a few days ago, every single attempt I make to upload, whether one track at a time, an album at a time, or multiple albums at a time, I get "No songs were added to your upload queue". Deleted, rebooted, and updated to the latest, 6.0.0.1152, and it's back to the old perpetual "Loading your music" screen. Canceled that after 24 hours, restart, and it comes right up. But still get "No files were added to your upload queue", whether dragging to the app or using the app's Upload button to select files.
It is completely useless again for uploading my music to the Amazon cloud. Come on Amazon, it's been a year since since you released this piece of garbage to the public. You should be ashamed of yourselves.at
Update 10/29/2017: Well, it's been a year since Amazon killed its great uploading program and forced this truly awful software on those of us who want to upload our own music to the Amazon cloud library that we pay for. The current version works for the most part. It still hangs on startup from time to time, but killing it and restarting it fixes it most of the time. If not, reinstalling usually does. When it does work, the file list usually isn't updated on the PC screen, so you can either guess or hope that your files were uploaded, or upload them again to be sure. Sometimes the second uploading will tell you they were uploaded, and sometimes it just doesn't say anything. Sometimes it gets into a state where it says "uploading" forever. Either cancel and restart, or reinstall to clear that, depending on your luck. Still unbelievable that Amazon would want its name on this awful software.
