Some trade-offs
Ok, so I bought this case specifically for it being WATERPROOF. I didn't buy it just because I needed a case. THAT will make the difference on how you view the case; the reasons you buy it play a huge role. First and foremost: follow the directions and do the waterproof test BEFORE you put the case on. They tell you to place a napkin or something inside the case, then put it under water with something not too heavy to keep it in place for ONE HOUR to make sure it works correctly. For the review(s) that say water ruined their phone, well I'm sure they just popped the case on without doing the test. The test is the FIRST step. My main desire when I bought this case (I'd lusted after it for months) was to have a waterproof case so I could take pictures in the pool with my kids. We also go the beach every summer, so the dust-proof quality was a major player too, considering I've always been freaked out by the dangers of the sand and the salt residue. Now? No worries. A drink spilled on my phone by my kids? No worries. The peace of mind this case brings me outweigh any petty complaints that others have had in their reviews. Pros: Everything the company advertises: waterproof!!!! dust proof !!! Shock resistant!!!! YAY!!!! Also, the case hugs the phone, is sleek, thin, and beautiful. Peace of mind!!! Peace of mind, and peace of mind. The underwater pics are clear and beautiful! Super fun to use in the pool. The regular dry pictures are perfectly clear also, and video sound is not hampered. Cons: You have to press slightly harder in the top left corner because there is a minute gap between the case and the screen up there. The sound is ever so slightly muffled when listening to music (this is very slight, and can you imagine a waterproof case that isn't?). The earbud jack isn't as quickly and easily accessible. You can't just plug in your headphones or auxiliary jack in one step. You have to use the attachment that screws into the jack, which is necessary to keep it waterproof. You have to keep up with the attachment and not lose it, or you can't use the jack with the case on. You can buy another attachment for $19.99. These cons are minor, and they come with the territory of a waterproof case. To me and others that want a truly waterproof case, the pros outweigh the cons, and the cons just come with the territory. Some things can't be avoided. If you are not buying the case for its waterproof capabilities, then I can see why you might be too annoyed to keep the case. So I believe the motivations for buying the phone really affect how you will enjoy this case. Summary: Perfectly waterproof. Safe for the beach, the pool, and the coffee table with a drink close by, or the tub if you enjoy soaking and surfing. There are a few trade offs, but you're motivations for buying the case are what will be the deciding factor on if you love the case or not. Think over the reason why before you buy, and it will help you have more satisfaction with your Lifeproof case. Thanks and hope this helps!!
