I did not want that obnoxious bright light staring at me during the night, or when I wanted to take a nap. I didn't want to have to squint when I didn't have my glasses on. So as I came to Amazon I wanted something that would look like a clock, function like a clock, alarm me like a clock, BUT not have the ugly appearance of a clock. I was skeptical when I saw this item. I thought no way are the digits going to disappear, I will try this review this and return if I am not happy. Well good luck getting this out of my house. I plan on getting about three more to place in various places in the house. They blend in and do not have the constant face. Although you can easily change that and the face is constantly on. I like that a sound like a snap of your fingers or a clap of your hands lights up the face and you can see what time it is. If you are a light sleeper as I and you wake up, I just tap the night stand where the clock sits and I see the time, in no time the face goes dark and I am back in REM happy land. My wife admired the appearance of the clock and she admired the texture and the finish. So, to wrap up, I love the functionality, the practicality, and the dark face. My wife loves that it doesn't look like an ugly alarm clock, appears to be well built and very easy to use. Like I said, we plan on another purchase of three more.
