Great book for the new entrepreneur.
Got an interesting one to review with you today. Now, most or all of you know by now that I own/run my own business. So why, you ask, am I reviewing a book on starting a business? Actually the answer is simpler than you’d think. It makes it easy for you and I don’t have to worry about a bunch of annoying questions! Seriously though, this entire series of books I’ve reviewed so far are a great addition to anyone trying to start and run a small business. This one is really simply written and breaks everything down in easy to digest chunks. It starts at the very beginning with the idea that tramples through your brain just waiting to be the next sensation. It shows you the difference between an idea and an opportunity and how to capitalize and build on the opportunity. For all you may have a great idea, if you don’t have a viable opportunity, it’s basically a wash. The best part of this book is that it uses real world companies to show where things worked and where/why they didn’t. They discuss where your internal belief system can bugger your business and never let it get off the ground. How careful planning may have you continuing in your normal job while you work your business on the side instead of jumping straight into the deep end. You’ll learn things about marketing, operations, growth and competitors. I actually learned a couple tricks from this book and I’ve been in business for more than 30 years. Never think you know it all, because invariably someone will come along and prove you wrong.
