LiveScribe 3 - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. My thoughts on the LiveScribe 3.
Ok. here is some background. I have owned every one of these pens since they initially came out in BETA.
My thoughts on the Livescribe 3
The Good
- Does it work as advertised? Yes without question.
- Is it the best easiest to use Livescribe product yet? Without question so long as you have a supported iPhone. I do. They say Android support is coming for all the right reasons so be patient. Its Googles fault not theirs.
- Will the OCR capabilities blow your mind? Without a doubt. Converting your scribble to text is as easy as 1,2,3.
The Bad
- The nib makes a funny clicking sound when you write. My feeling is that when you are selling a pen that costs $150 bucks your target demographic expects the quality to be better.
- Evernote Integration could be better. I live in Evernote. Its just where I take notes for all the reasons Evernote is a successful company. When your notes arrive in Evernote they do as a PDF even though the Livescribe app has an uncanny ability to transcribe my cruddy hand written scrawl to text. I realize that there is some reason why this was not included. Most likely something to do with taking advantage of existing iOS functionality but still. If I take the time to edit the note and add tags etc then it should arrive in Evernote just like that and not as a PDF. Just my 5 cents worth.
- Could the quality be better? Yes. Its a little 'plasticy' if that is a word. The cap you remove to recharge the pen with the micro USB is going to get lost without a doubt. Livescribe might as well start sending out free replacement ones now.
The Ugly
- No sync'ing between devices. I like many others have a multitude of devices. I have a Macbook Air, a iPad and a iPhone and they all have their place. The last thing I want is multiple Livescribe Notebooks on different devices. In the world of Dropbox and Google Drive we want our stuff every where. I know they say they are working but still. If the Evernote integration worked like it should it wouldn't matter as much.
My suggestion
- Add Salesforce.com integration and you will find a whole other market. Hint, hint they refer to them as Sales Reps.
