This is probably the best battery powered grinder in the price range, but unfortunately I've had better and this is a bit of a step down. I got a set of salt and pepper mills as a gift years ago. The pepper mill blew a gear and doesn't work right anymore. I started looking around for a replacement and found out that they cost $100 each (thanks mom!) I didn't really feel like spending that and figured I'd give this one a try. My main gripe is that this one is not nearly as powerful as my old one. It grinds at about half the speed. One other negative is that, while the whole unit is significantly bigger than my old one, it actually holds slightly less salt/pepper. I have not really found the light to be very useful. In fact, it might actually make it harder to see what's going on because of the glare. The one thing I like about this one better is the button location. The button on my old one was on the side. So, I accidentally set it off just about every time I picked it up. This one has the button on top, which I like better. I like that this runs on 4 AA batteries. I use rechargeable Eneloops, which work great in this.
