I was looking for a deck box to store my grandkids toys on the front porch, so I wanted something attractive looking. I finished this in a variety of stains before assembly to give it a unique look. It has gas shocks which make it very easy to lift the lid and keep it open. No pinched fingers :). It assembled easily enough in about an hours' time. ETA: I am shocked to read some of the more recent reviews about the quality of this item. We have been so pleased with the performance of ours. Not one complaint. I wonder if they changed something.
