Background: My first experiences with sewing were being taught to darn socks (by hand, of course) and making a simple apron on a treadle machine 70 years ago in the orphanage! These two memories came rushing back to me as I scanned all the pages for the first time after my long anticipated copy of Bernadette’s book arrived yesterday. I was surprised to realize how much I’d learned in the past and had since forgotten. Now I’m so looking forward to savoring each and every page, partly to refresh my recollection, partly to learn new techniques. I love everything about this book: the photos, the crystal clear writing instructions, the cameo stories written by her friends…..and above all…Bernadette’s palpable presence on every page. Somehow it’s even better than watching her YT videos, perhaps because instead of sharing her with thousands of other viewers, it’s just the two of us.
