LOVE THE TITLE
This book popped up as a recommendation for me on Amazon and it was weird because I've been curious about the Great Migration and what it was truly like. Both of my parents are from the south (born in the 40s). My Mother has been in NY since she was 3 so she didn't really deal with what my father dealt with. My Father is from South Carolina. They moved to Baltimore when he was in his late teens, and then to upstate NY where he eventually met my mother. But when I ask my Father or his sisters about growing up in South Carolina, sadly, they look the other way. They don't share much at all and it hurts me to think that their childhood was so painful that they don't want to risk reliving it or rehashing old feelings. This book popping up on my timeline was like someone saying "here. Read this. This is what it was like for your Dad and his family." I'm reading now and thoroughly enjoying it, though it will make you angry at times. But I need to know what life was like back then. This book is well written and engaging. I'm about halfway through it and will write a review on the actual book when I'm done. Also, they need to start reading this book in schools being that they hardly teach young people about slavery anymore. Young African Americans no longer know or respect the struggle and they really need to start. Maybe they'll work a little harder.
