VINTAGE STYLES: Very good rollers depending on the hairstyle.
I am a beginner at vintage hairstyling, and have short/medium length slightly wavy hair. I've always curled and set my hair back in the early 90s. I bought these to quickly curl my hair when I am too lazy to set my hair the night before in foam or pillow rollers. These are my thoughts after I used these rollers for the first time:
- 1940s & early 50s hairstyles: Use only medium and small rollers. Best to use sleep-in rollers. Don't use the large rollers at all. I asked my daughter for another set for Xmas so I could get all.the.smaller.rollers.
- Late 50s & 60s hairstyles: Use all the rollers. Use the large ones around the crown to get that smooth, large curl bouffant hair look. I think this era is where these hot rollers really shine.
- 70s and beyond: Use the medium and large rollers for large wavy curls, and the "big hair" look.
PROS:
My hair DID look smoother and shinier than using regular sleep-in curlers, or a curling iron.
Plugged in the unit while I sectioned my hair. After I was done the rollers were hot and ready to use.
The metal roller pins can hold any roller. This means you can place any size roller in any pin, or even buy a second set to get the roller size you want.
Excellent to get medium to large curls.
Good for tighter curls if you have enough medium and smaller rollers to do the job.
Time saving: better than a curling iron because you can do your makeup as your rollers curl your hair.
The price is right.
CONS:
Rollers may feel a little too hot for some people to handle, so use a heat resistant glove.
The metal J clips are useful, but not user-friendly. I recommend trying plastic curler clips.
Container seems a little flimsy - especially the lid.
If you do 40s & 50s hairstyles exclusively I recommend you just curl your hair old fashioned way.
The curl only lasted a day. I can get up to three days out of a hairstyle if I use sleep-in rollers.
May need to buy two sets for specific hairstyles, or long thick hair.
