Pay once, cry once, and you'll have a lifetime tool.
This is the best spiralizer ever. Hands down. Read on for why you want this. We initially bought the Paderno World Cuisine Spiralizer Pro, 4-Blade spiralizer. It was $49.95 on Amazon, and seemed like a great deal. This was a far, far better investment and I wish we'd bought it up front. Read my review for the Paderno on my profile page. TL;DR: There are cheaper options out there for spiralizers, but you definitely pay for what you get. Pay once, cry once, and you'll have a serious Kitchenaid appliance that'll last for years and be guaranteed as part of Kitchenaid's incredible warranty and customer service. This is one of those instances where holding out for quality is well rewarded. The Good: The packaging is handsome and utilitarian. Don't just tear into your box! It is actually designed as a long-term storage for your spiralizer and attachments. It's sturdy cardboard and foam packaging that leaves everything on clear display. Major points here to Kitchenaid for not selling you a bunch of one-use unsustainable packaging; it's meant to be used and kept long-term. The parts are solid and stainless steel, no faux-plating of plastic here. Incredibly sturdy and well-made, and the blades are nice and sharp, to boot. The parts all lock in place really solidly at the major attachment points and beside just 'indexing' locations, there are hinges that use actual pressure to hold the parts solidly down. I'm extremely impressed with them from a utilitarian view as well as an engineering one. The components are designed to be 'drop in', so you don't have to spend a lot of time installing or calibrating parts- they're all self-aligning once you get them dialed in and all you have to do is tighten down the brackets and the tension levers, which can be done with literally one hand. The primary parts are all machine washable and the spiralizer itself can be rinsed in hot soapy water, so it's a breeze to keep things cleaned up properly. Though it's a subjective feeling, it all 'feels' extremely solid and durable, with no play in the hinges or axes of motion. It worked incredibly well for yellow squash, and we'll add on to this review as we try out other vegetables and slicers. The Bad: It's a bit pricey at $100, but this is a case of pay once, cry once. It's the only way to go if you've got a Kitchenaid. There is very little negative I can say about this device! Improvements: Pie-in-the-sky wish would be that it could handle longer than 6" vegetables. But, that's very likely making it too long for practical daily use.
