I purchased this humidifier for my son's small room. We have had a few humidifiers before this one, and this one is my favorite. What I love the most about this one is how easy it is to clean. It uses the water up in one night. I simply let it air dry during the day and fill it up again at bedtime. About once or twice a week, I check it for mildew and odor. Even if there isn't any, I do a vinegar wash. I have another larger humidifier in another room that gets smelly, turns pink, etc. in about three days. At first, I was skeptical because of the small size. Now, I realize that there is a definite advantage to this. I do recommend this humidifier for small rooms. I've also followed the advice of another reviewer and use tap water (the claim was that there was chlorine in the water, which kept it cleaner). I use tap water in this humidifier and my large humidifier. There aren't any white flakes. The other humidifier still gets mildew, but this one stays clean.
