EXCELLENT Customer service
I bought this for a job requiring inch/pounds instead of foot/lbs. Feels and looks like good quality and has a nice range of settings. Fairly easy to read the dials.
UPDATE TROUBLE: i finished the job I bought this for this weekend (replace the plastic upper intake on a Buick 3800 engine). The instructions called for a careful incremental increase of torque to the bolts applied in a precise series. 22 inch pounds then 44 inch pounds then 89 inch pounds. All went well until I reached 89 inch pounds and bolt number 7 cracked the manifold. Ruined a long days work! I thought it felt like over torque for plastic but I trusted the wrench!!! Initially I thought that it was the manifold that was bad but I tested the wrench against my FOOT pound wrench. Set the big wrench to 10 ft/lbs and tightened a bolt. Then set THIS wrench to 120 inch/lbs. This wrench continued to turn the bolt without the "click" indicating it reached torque. In other words it went well beyond what the first wrench said was full torque. I repeated this with the same results on another bolt with identical results. I am not an engineer but I believe this proves my new wrench TORQUED ME THE WRONG WAY. Really ruined my day. Had to buy a new manifold for twice the price I paid online ($77). Re did the job with the same wrench set at 65 inches. Have to wonder if it is 65 inches or 80 inches or if it will hold or leave my daughter stranded on some highway!? I will give tekton a chance to address my concerns and will post here when they respond. I think I saw another review somewhere that had a similar bad experience......
****SECOND UPDATE: I spoke with Russ at Tekton. He was very friendly and helpful. After explaining to him exactly what happened he is sending me a replacement wrench. This is the kind of customer service that will keep me as a customer. I am impressed and raising my review to 4 stars. NOTICE that Russ and other reviewers say that the "click" on this wrench is very subtle and can be missed if not carefully watched. I am confident this is not what happened to me but if you are having trouble it maybe your problem. Nice and easy and listen and watch closely.....
******Final update. After much consideration and mulling over what happened I think that the first manifold that broke may have been a defective return. It was VERY different from the one I bought locally. The first was not wrapped and was partially assembled. The local second manifold was shrink wrapped and required much more assembly. I think some "wise bottom" returned one that he or she cracked and it was repacked and shipped to me. So much speculation on my part but that is my final call since I don't have any way to really gauge these torque wrenchs. Bottom line is I think these are quality tools. Sorry about writing a book here.
