Our big blue American Bully XL has skin allergies which cause near constant ear infections (we did not crop his ears), and he will actually come ask us to put medication in his ears. He understands it it helping him, and he does his best to tolerate it. Such a good boy! There’s no need to preclean an ear that already hurts when you use this medication, & it was vet prescribed to us ( we paid more through her) so we stick to this one. We also use it as a preventative whenever his skin becomes irritated, or he has had a bath. It has worked miracles for Tank, and I recommend it to everyone whose dog has developed, is developing, or prone to ear infections. It actually works (don’t forget to massage the ear a bit after you put some in to get it spread around in the ear, and ear canal- because as soon as you let their head go they are going to shake their head! You don’t need to mush it down, and hurt the dog more, just a firm unhurtfull massage. We also use this once after bathing our other dogs to just in case any water gets stuck in their ears. I was a dog groomer before a bar accident ended that career. Any groomer, or vet will tell you that you must clean your dogs ears on occasion. Unless your vet, or a professional has shown you how this product is a good alternative between visits to the vet, or groomer.
